Who are you?

“Who are you?”

This is not meant as some deep philosophical question.  I actually want to know who my readers are.  In my last set of polls you told me what you come to MCP Blog for and what you might want less of.  So now I am gathing info on who my audience is so it will help me guide my posts even better.  So no bribes this time.  Do it because you love me – or like me – or just want to be helpful :).  4 quick polls – read each to see if you need to pick one answer or can check a few boxes.  I will share the results with you soon.  Thanks so much!!!  Jodi

You forgot pet photography!!! Although, some of the pets I photograph can get pretty wild, they don’t fit in as “wildlife!” :-)

I came to you through Tara Whitney’s blog – she mentioned that she used your templates for her blog displays (which was a huge question of mine!) and I came to visit and bought some of your actions yesterday! Many were just the things I have been looking for. I had a blast playing around with some of my new toys last night! Thank you for developing great products. I will look forward to being part of this community. . .

Hey Jodi….just wanted to say that I purchased your actions about a month ago. I am loving the dentist and eye doctor. Just wanted to say that they are both great actions and do a fabulous job of doing the job without overdoing the job!! thanks

Hi Jodi – I’m the one “Other” vote (so far) under “What level of photographer do you consider yourself?”. I’m kind of a mix of a few of them. I used to shoot professionally – very part-time though. That was nearly 10 years ago and I shot with a Nikon 35mm SLR. I’ve recently bought a digital SLR – a Canon, so I’m relearning how to use an SLR – well, just learning how to use a Canon SLR, really. I shoot just for friends and family because I choose not to do anything professionally, but I am considering putting together a portfolio and site and getting back into the “pro” side of it again. Anyway, I love your site and recommend it to all my friends and family who are looking to get into shooting professionally! Thanks for all the great info!

    Hi Jodi,
Under type of photography I placed other. I shoot team sports, dance and events as well. Might be a category or two to add. Thanks for the vote and the cool way to see the results right away. What a wiz you are!

I read it through a reader so whenever there is a new post. I suppose that qualifies as daily, eh? I never miss a post. :)

I am no good at taking pictures, but I do love looking at engagement and wedding photography. This all started when I got engaged and took engagement pictures and I loved how my photos were post processed with the most amazing color. I like to add a little color to my auto focused photos once in awhile but obviously it is not the same. I like to try though.

I checked other as I am just an amateur hobbyist. BTW I love the tip on the Collage software. It is so much fun! Thanks. If you find any more neat apps like that let us know. I was so excited when I saw it was Mac compatible!

Jodi, I love your blog! never miss it. My only wish is that you would create some stuff for Lightroom 2. Any chance of that in the future?

    Jodi says:

Andrea – I will never say never… But I have no plans for that at this time. For now I am focusing on my web presence. Look for some changes in a few months :) Then… I have a few more ideas for projects – actions and training (but still not sure which I will have come to fruition)…

I’m one of those amateurs who take pictures for the love of it but am constantly told I should do it for a living. I’ve done a few shoots (two baby, one pregnancy, and one portrait) but it’s been as a favour. My next passion is Photoshop. I’m a graphics junkie and love taking a photo and turning it into a work of art. That’s kind of how I stumbled across your blog and your actions. I’ve purchased some of them and am quite pleased with how well they work. Your blog is very interesting and I’d love to see more “before and after’s” from you and your subscribers showing not only the photos but the recipes used to achieve the various effects.

    Debby,

    That gives me an idea…

    Maybe a Blueprint Contest?

    Hmmm… Anyone like that idea?

    Jodi

I know this is a very specific market…

but I also use your products to fix my clients’ photos. Things I didn’t shoot, but since I design blogs and websites… clients often want photos of themselves or photos they took included in their design.

And if pro photogs struggle with things like white balance and sharpness, the average person with a P&S doesn’t really wield a powerful look for a blog or website. I use a combo of actions and post production skills I’ve gained to do photoshopping of others’ stuff.

So, yeah… try in fit all that in a tiny little check box. ;)

So, I shoot as a hobbiest for my family (we all know my HandyMan is the real photog in the family), but I do get paid to do post production for clients’ images.

Aren’t you glad you asked? ;)

  18. 18

ps – yes. I LOVE the idea of a blueprint contest. I’m in.

I considered voting “other”, but right now “hobbiest” probably best describes me. I take pictures purely for enjoyment. Although, I would love if I could make enough money to support my habit, either through iStockphoto or some other venue. Travel, Nature, and Macro photography are my passions and most common subjects. I also LOVE Photoshop and the creativity it allows. I only wish I would learn how to use it.

I took a photography class in high school and two classes in college, and read “Popular Photography” for years, so I understand the basics of DOP, ISO, apertures, etc, but desperately want to increase my technical knowledge. I got a Minolta X-700 in 1993 and a Fujifilm S5100 in 2005, and am seriously looking into buying a Nikon D40.

I have a point-and-shoot, but I’m looking to go the SLR route. I wasn’t ready to make the financial commitment to an SLR, so I bought a prosumer (Canon Powershot G10) to get myself used to the nuances of a “fancier” camera. Right now, it’s just a hobby. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the things I can manually control on my camera and all the neat things Photoshop can do for me. I love your “before & after” posts, because I find them inspirational when I think about how I want my photos to look.
