Where to Begin… My 1 Week Journey Owning a Mac

For those who follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you may have heard bits and pieces of this already.  For the rest of you, I thought since we have voting and discussing if I should get Mac or PC, that I should update you on the situation.

After all the discussion, even though Mac “won” in the voting, I decided to get a PC (it seemed to make smarter business sense). So I went to Dell’s site since I am happy with my laptop, and was overwhelmed.  You may remember my “KISS” post about keeping things simple. Dell had too many choices.  Plus I did not want Vista (and the New Windows 7 is coming soon).  I was told though to update to it – you basically wipe your computer clean.  No thanks. So I was torn.  But decided to take a trip to the Apple store.

Yep, fell in love at the Apple store… Regretting that whole “love at 1st site” thing now…

So a few days later I decide I want the best most powerful Mac, a Mac that can grown and expand with my business.  Enter MacPro…  Beautiful, heavy, fast, best you can buy (well supposedly anyway).  A friend of mine from college works at Apple and got me a light discount – which was great.  So it was ordered through online channels (regretting that now too as the online and the stores are apparently two divisions that do not work so cohesively). No big deal unless you have issues.  More on that later…

The day the 53 pounder arrived, I had Fed Ex put it in my trunk, and I drove right to the Apple store at 12 Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan.  They took my laptop and the tower and migrated the data.  In 24 hours I was ready to go…  Well I was supposed to be ready to go…  I got to the store to pick it up.  They put all 38,000 photos from my PC into iPhoto.  I organized my content in a folder structure so this was a NIGHTMARE.  Also the calendar did not migrate correctly.  After using Mobile Me we figured out a way to fix the calendar.  My iPhone data did get messed up – but that was not too bad of a fix.  So, I left my computer overnight at Apple again and they deleted the photos from iPhoto and re-imported them back in.

All better, ready to go…  NEC sent me a demo model to test (before I buy) of the Multisync 2690.  So I hooked it up and got to work setting up and installing programs (like Photoshop for Mac) and getting VMware, Windows and old Photoshop versions on that side.

After 4-5 days or so, I was excited and ready to actually use the computer in production and for work.  I tossed my PC laptop aside and started playing and customizing Photoshop.  I did not really notice a huge speed difference – but I also was still getting use to finding the new keys and learning new shortcuts, so that may be why.

Then Wednesday night – not even a week after bring the Apple home from the data migration – trouble really started.  I could not get the computer to print. So I finished editing.  Quit all the programs.  Then clicked Restart.

What you see above I saw for about 15 hours straight. Apple Care was closed.  I cannot believe they are not 24 hours, but this is my fault for not checking before buying.  I had a few people from Facebook and Twitter recommending things and my sister and brother-in-law helping me try everything Apple recommends.  To no avail, the computer and hard drives would not re-boot.

I talked to Apple as soon as they opened. They had to repeat everything I had done the prior evening. Nothing…  Then play CD to do an archive and reinstall of the OS, which should save data but would probably wipe out programs.  It failed.  I got a big error after 5 minutes saying it could NOT install the OS.

Now what? I called the Apple store and immediately spoke to the manager. She was great and said to bring the 53 pound paperweight in for repair.

So now I have no Mac. It has multiple things wrong with it – not sure of all of them yet. The optical drive is not functioning correctly.  They are not sure but think there might be hard drive failure, and that the operating system is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled. All this under one week.  WOW!!!

They called to tell me that before they can do anything they need to order a new optical drive and then can troubleshoot more.  It could easily be a week before my Mac gets back here.  Who knows…  But the troubling part is that the manager and the “genius” both said, they could have just given me a new Mac Pro if I had not ordered a customized one online.  They explained how they are two different divisions.  If you buy from one you cannot return to the other.  Even with this extreme circumstance there is NO WAY they can get me a replacement since it was an online purchase.  They said I can call customer service and try to get them to exchange it but then I need to do all the transactions, shipping, etc.  I seriously thought better of Apple.

If you got this far, and I am in shock if you did, I am just trying to appreciate that I have my Dell Precision laptop to type and communicate on.  And I am dreading trying to re-set up and combine data from my PC and Mac again.  Even if they restore it – certain things will be lost, plus all the data on the PC that I create this week will either need to be lost of moved.  I hate stress and try to minimize it in my life.  I am hoping that someday this will all be a bad dream and that I will be “in love” with my Mac as so many of you are. Getting off to a rocky start in a relationship will certainly make this harder.

For now I can only assume that I got a LEMON instead of an APPLE.

Now I need to take this lemon and sell some “lemonade.” Anyone thirsty?

Good luck Jodi! I’m sending best wishes for a happy ending!

I’m a PC, and I can’t imagine changing. One thing I don’t understand though is why didn’t you want Vista? At first I didn’t like it either but, when you get used to it from it being new it is great, I love vista, and haven’t had all the problems people seem to talk about. I love your story though, it is one for the ages. Sorry about your stress, but your story was very entertaining. I really do hope it gets better for you, I love your blogs and tweets. Thank you.

  3. Julia Spencer on July 10, 2009 at 11:23 am

That sucks… 🙁 This stuff happens with PC’s too. We owned a computer repair business and everyone has their stories. We had this one guy who we built a system for and a week after he bought it, the system died. We built hundreds of new pc’s so it wasn’t like it was something we had done. The hardware was just DOA. This sounds like what you are dealing with. Although the frustrating part is that the left hand can’t do anything about what the right hand is doing. 🙁

  4. Laser on July 10, 2009 at 11:26 am

I am truly sorry you have had this horrible experience. I have been using a Mac since the early 80’s and have never had a problem. Never had a hard drive fail or any piece of hardware fail. The MacPro is one machine I have not tried. Currently have the MacBook Pro 17inch and love it and also have an iMac desktop which has been great too. Hopefully Apple will make this right for you and give you a new machine. On the Dell side, my DIL purchased two Dells for their twins and in just over year both of them went belly up! No compensation from Dell on those.

  5. Wendy M on July 10, 2009 at 11:44 am

We are a dual OS family – my husband has the MacBook and I have a laptop running Vista. I use his mac on occasion and he has to use a PC at work, so we understand each other. I think both of us have had a few glitches here and there, so I can’t say one is better than the other. It’s just what you prefer. Now, as for Dell. I would never buy another Dell PC again. Hardware failures galore! I buy Gateway and am very happy with their quality and service.I does sound like you got a lemon. I hate it when that happens! Hope everything works out well!

  6. Melissa Y on July 10, 2009 at 11:48 am

I just recently migrated to a MAC and LOVE IT. That being said, aside from the software stuff, it was a simple transition because all of my data and pictures and files and such are kept on an external harddrive, so it was easy to plug and go. I also ordered mine (a macbook pro) online because I customized it. The week after I ordered mine, MAC announced the new MacBook Pro’s which were faster and bigger (harddrives, that is) and cheaper to boot. Well, we ran into the same issue with having bought it online and not being able to return in stores and all of that, so my husband called the customer service to discuss our options. Apple agreed to send me a new MAC, and allowed me to return the one I originally had within 10 days. This may be an option for you, even though the circumstances are different. Just tell them you are not happy with your purchase and don’t want to mess with repairs and all, and start fresh, since even with repairs, you’ll likely have to start fresh anyway. May be faster anyway. Hope that helps! I really had a great experience with their customer service, so hope your frustration with you lemon doesn’t permanently taint your experiences.

I am so sorry you did not have good luck at FIRST with your new mac. I am happy you did decide to switch over, you will be happy you did in the long run. I do believe you got a lemon… I think there must have been something wrong with the computer before you got it. Hope it all works out… they sure are pretty aren’t they, I PROMISE, YOU WILL LOVE!!!

  8. Tira J on July 10, 2009 at 12:09 pm

This is a huge bummer and a half! So sorry Jodi! We are a dual household PC and MAC have never had a problem with our Mac’s other than running out of space. I am SHOCKED that they told you that they cannot service or return an item that was purchased online. I purchased my MacBook Pro online and take it to our local apple store frequently. Maybe it is because we are in California and so is Apple. Well, look at the bright side. At least you didn’t get any further into working on it and you haven’t completely tossed your Dell’s aside. Good Luck to you. 🙂

  9. Brendan on July 10, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I use both. They both have problems. Macs are better for people who don’t understand computers.

  10. Robyn on July 10, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I’m so sorry. My MacPro arrived a few days before yours and has been perfect. It sounds like you got a total lemon. I’m really surprised at their policy regarding store and online purchases. I’ve never heard that and I’m on my second Mac. I definitely thought more of them as well. I’m also on my second iPhone. I bought mine at AT&T and when it didn’t work 2 weeks later, the Apple store replaced it free. (AT&T wanted $300 to give me a new phone.) That’s what I expect from Apple, not the BS you’re getting.

  11. Tina on July 10, 2009 at 12:23 pm

When I bought my first Macbook from Best Buy the screen was all pixelly and green. I returned it and was completely leary of Apple which was supposed to be so great. I relented and got an iMac a few months later and have been completely happy with it. It sucks for you that everyone told you Apple was so great and now this crap happened to you. If you end up returning it and staying PC, get a Gateway. I think they last the longest and perform the best of any PC company.

  12. Cort on July 10, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Macs are not magical computers that do everything for you. Yes, they do break down and occasionally Apple ships a lemon, so does Dell, HP and all the rest. The last HP I bought had a CD drive that was dead right out of the box, their solution, ship it back to them for repair and get it back in 2-3 weeks, no other options.A suggestion, try calling Customer Service at Apple and ask for a manager, politely explain that you have a lemon and you don’t want to wait weeks for a repair and ask for a replacement. These are the people that can make things happen if they want to. It will definitely get you further than posting everywhere about your bad experience. Some Mac hints, iPhoto cannot handle the requirements of a pro photographer don’t even try, set up Time Machine ASAP to prevent data loss and make restoring data easier, shortcuts should almost always the same between Macs and PCs it is the Command/Control and Option/Alt keys that are different.

  13. Katie Trujilo on July 10, 2009 at 12:33 pm

When I first bought my MacBook Pro, I had some problems a few months later. The magsafe charger was overheating, etc. I contacted Apple online because that’s where I bought it from and then sent me a box to ship the computer back in and got it back to me within 3-5 days. I didn’t have to pay any shipping and they gave me a new products. Have you tried to contact the online side. I’m sure they’d take care of you right away!

  14. amymom24 on July 10, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Oh no… so sorry about this Jodi!! I hope you will one day be able to love your Mac, too. I’ve had nothing by pleasantness since I got mine in March. Here’s hoping round two is better!!

  15. Carol Nanfito on July 10, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Hang in there…you will (and I mean it) eventually LOVE your Mac. So much better than a PC, but I feel your pain. Have a great weekend and I’ll take a glass of lemonade please!!

  16. tracey Emmett on July 10, 2009 at 1:04 pm

That stinks that you’ve had so much trouble with your new toy. It is the WORST when things break or just aren’t doing what they are supposed to do! Good luck, keep us posted!

  17. Maisy on July 10, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Sounds like a really frustrating ordeal! They shouldn’t punish their customers for buying online.

  18. Alisha Shaw on July 10, 2009 at 1:11 pm

So sorry!!! That’s a huge mental leap to make too just to have it be a mess. You might possibly have to go back and look at that Dell??? 😉

  19. Marissa Rodriguez on July 10, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Bummer! This sounds totally stressful! Sorry you have to go through this and I hope it works out for you soon 🙂

  20. Deirdre on July 10, 2009 at 1:22 pm

I am so sorry you’ve been having all these problems. I’m a PC user, and I always have Mac people telling me how much better their computers are and how their computers never have the problems PCs do, and while I don’t think your experience ends the Mac/PC wars, I do think it’s good for people to bear in mind that yes, even Macs can have problems. But I’m wondering why you saw Dell as your only PC option? My experience with Dell customer service has been awful, and I would never buy from them if I knew I was going to rely on their customer service (my Dad is my computer guru though — so I don’t have to rely on customer service). I’d stay away from HP too because I’ve heards similar things There are many other PC brands though. I’ve been hearing such great things about Lenovo, for example — rugged, good customer service, etc. I’m hearing pretty good things about Acer, as well.If you decide the Mac just isn’t worth it, why not do a little reading at PC World and PC Mag, maybe find yourself a local computer/photography geek to help you (they could even build you a computer out of different components, which could possibly be cheaper — that’s what my Dad does).

    • MCP Actions on July 10, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Actually I have had HPs (worst ever) and Dells. The Dells performed best and I paid for US phone support and it has been great on my laptop.

  21. Nicole on July 10, 2009 at 1:36 pm

I began having this problem with my iMac this week after owning it for nearly a year, with no problems whatsoever. I strongly believe that Adobe sent out an update last week that caused it. I’ve been in the middle of Lightroom and Photoshop when my computer has frozen 3 times, and I’ve either gotten the screen you showed or one with a flashing folder with a ? in the middle. I had to erase and reinstall everything. I’m hoping it fixed the problem, but I haven’t had time to delve into it too deeply.

  22. Tracy on July 10, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Well, I told you before but I just switched to an iMac, last month and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! BUT I had my share of issues too. I did the VMWare/Windows XP too, PS CS2 and all…nothing but problems and had to dump and disc installl again too. As of right now I am happy, getting used to it and am using CS4 for MAC 30 trial until I can buy it (next month) LOL! That has solved most of my issues. and I am happy with the switch. Hope you are right and a Month from now you are happy and not stressed! 🙂

  23. Tracy on July 10, 2009 at 1:49 pm

PS, I also use external hard drives for Photos and so that was Plug and play! No iPhoto for me!

  24. Janet McK on July 10, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Oh I’m SO sorry 🙁 Cort is right. Steer clear of iPhoto. It’s not made to handle so many pictures. I’m sure you have a ton of memory, but it drains that like NONE other when you have a whole lotta pictures. I hope they make this right!

  25. Erin on July 10, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Ok, that is terrible customer service – especially for Apple. I got my iMac from Frye’s Electronics and when the screen started looking slightly wonky 8 months later, I took it into the Apple store. I mentioned that I wish I would have bought a MacBook Pro and external screen instead of the iMac and they gave me FULL credit to exchange the iMac. I’m so sorry that you had a bad experience with Apple but believe me, that is definitely an isolated incident.

  26. Mark on July 10, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Sorry you’re having so much grief. Did you by any chance get AppleCare with that beast. On of the benefits besides cranking the hardware warranty and phone support to 3 years (from 1 year and 90 days respectively) is you can arrange for on site service if you’re within 50 miles of an Authorized Apple Service Provider that offers on site service. You can set it up with a manager through Apple Care. iPhoto, great for family snapshots, useless for professional photographers (unless just pulling in some shots to make a book with). And just to clarify because I think some people assumed something different. Any Apple store can service any Mac regardless of if it was purchased online or in store. The reason they can’t just replace it is yours was a CTO, custom to order. The stores deal in stock models, not the custom builds. They don’t have one they can pull off the shelf that matches what you bought and replace it with. But I’ve seen cases where the store has replaced a stock build no matter what it’s source.

  27. Jessica G on July 10, 2009 at 3:01 pm

You definitely got a lemon. I’ve had a mac for nearly two years now and had minor issues compared to what you’ve described. They were big issues to me though, once right after the holiday season, my hard-drive crashed. A week earlier and I would’ve been screwed! I had some really shoddy customer service and when we complained with the second hard-drive crash, Mac completely blew us a way by giving us a brand-new computer and OS – this was 18 months after I had bought it originally. Leasson learned – get the applecare and make sure your complaints are heard. When you get the right people, their customer service is amazing.

  28. Melissa H. on July 10, 2009 at 3:13 pm

So sorry for your bad experience. It seems like every brand has it’s clunkers. I know you said you had a bad HP experience, but for me it has been just the opposite. I’ve always had great customer service and minimal problems with my notebook. I just bought one of their Touchsmart Desktops and am loving it. My parent’s on the other hand have had nothing but problems with their Dell machine. Guess you just never know what you’re going to get for sure.

  29. Donna on July 10, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Wow. I’m stunned and my heart goes out to you. How so many things could go wrong is just beyond me. I custom-built my MacPro through Apple on-line and, to this day (2 years later), have had no problems whatsoever. Nor have I had problems with my MacBook Pro or my iMac. I know this really bad (and frustrating) situation will leave a bad taste in your mouth with all things Apple, but I’m hoping that things go smoothly once you get your machine back. It is truly an awesome machine, and so much more stable (believe it or not). Hang in there – this too shall pass. Once you get through the “growing pains” of switching over from PC to Mac, you will truly never look back :-).

  30. Delane on July 10, 2009 at 4:33 pm

I’ll second what Cort said, iPhoto is NOT the application that you want or need to use for PRODUCTION (i.e. real work on a daily basis). There are other options that are much better and more robust solutions. You should look at PhotoMechanic from the guys at Camera Bits:http://www.camerabits.com/site/index.htmlI'm not sure how you organize your photos, but I use a very simple method where they are all downloaded (ingested) into my “Pictures” folder with a chronological naming system. Photos would be in a folders named like this:090710_Sports Illustrated090702_G8 Convention090619_Philadelphia University Business School090614_Charlotte Airport……..070619_Philadelphia University Business SchoolIt’s easy to search, makes sense and it’s logical. You then use Photo Mechanic to browse the images within the folder. Good luck!!!Delane

  31. Puna on July 10, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Jodie, sorry about your issues. Man, how frustrating. It sounds like you did get a lemon. I sent your two articles along to a couple of geeks friends of mine. I think it’s very educational and though I didn’t want to see it happen to you, I think we can all learn from this! I have a Sony Vaio, and I love love love it. I have bought a few Dells for work have had mixed results. I hope Apple does right by you! I voted for a pc by the way:)

  32. Aaron Downs on July 10, 2009 at 5:34 pm

We recently did the transition to an iMac. It certainly hasn’t been perfect but not because of the machine fortunately. The reality is though that what you are experiencing can and does happen to anyone that buys a computer. You expect perfection but someone is going to get slugged by the reliability factor regardless of manufacturer. Unfortunately this time it was you. Hang in there and talk to other professional photogs about what tools to use for managing your photos as apple techs wont know whats best for your needs. All the best

  33. John Smith on July 10, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Hey there,I worked at a Mac service center for a couple of years, and almost without exception when things like this would happen, it was caused by a faulty stick of ram or two, either from the factory, or that you’ve added yourself. This can cause software damage, general functionality problems, crashing, etc. Other things to consider as possible culprits of issues like this are faulty USB devices plugged into the machine.. A USB hub which has gone bad.. A bad mouse or keyboard.. etc. Try swapping them out with different pieces, and see if the problems correct themselves. Hope this helps, even if they don’t.

  34. wayoutnumbered on July 10, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Sounds like you’ve heard it all….seriously though, don’t give up on the Mac! We own 4 of them and most of their things work perfectly, we just can’t figure them out perfectly! The first 6 months I owned mine I wanted to throw it thru the wall but not I’m addicted to it…best of luck:)

  35. Kim Percival on July 10, 2009 at 9:16 pm

There is nothing worse than buyers remorse! Sorry about your lemon.

  37. Sari on July 11, 2009 at 8:10 am

Oh, that sucks. You definitely got a lemon. It happens. Even with Macs. I wouldn’t rule out owning a Mac because of this though. I’ve never had those sort of issues with my Mac but it’s bound to happen. Hope they get it all figured out for you!

  38. Kansas Allen on July 11, 2009 at 10:38 am

Thanks for being honest and sharing this Jodi. Sometimes people are so dedicated to the name they won’t admit that Mac’s have problems no matter what, almost as if there is a secret society of “let’s not ever say anything bad about Macs!” But, on that note, I think all computers can have problems, PC’s or Mac’s and when buying a computer always check the “what happens if this thing screws up??” I wouldn’t even think about buying a computer without purchasing the extended warranty, usually one service call and no headache pays for it 🙂 I hope you get your problems worked out soon.

  39. Adam on July 11, 2009 at 12:50 pm

I think Kansas above said it well. ‘secret society’ and ‘so dedicated won’t admit that problems matter’. It doesn’t matter what system you have, they are all the same inside. It wasn’t the case several years back as Mac had IBM CPU’s but that has since changed. That is why you can now run Windows on Mac hardware, because the hardware inside is exactly the same.So the difference is the operating system. And operating systems are written by people, thus they are flawed. Jodi’s story here I have heard many times regardless of hardware and regardless of operating system. It is more commonly heard of on Windows systems because they outnumber Mac’s in the market by approx 10 to 1. So it is natural they get more exposure and it is human nature to focus on the negative and exploit it because that makes for good press.Too bad to hear of the issues you have had. Migration of a large volume of tools and files (especially those of someone that uses the computer as one of their professional tool) is huge and troublesome when jumping from one platform to another. That is normal and to be expected and anyone that tells you different is trying to sell you something! But hardware failure is a a crap shoot and like you said, probably got a lemon.I don’t doubt you will be pleased with the new platform once your migration is complete and you are coming accustom to it. But to move a business from one system to another is a time consuming task that may cause a few bumps and bruises along the way, but you will prevail!

  40. Lora Carr on July 11, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Did you know that if you are a member of the PPA there is a PPA shop on Apple’s site and it has the largest discount Apple gives – about 20% off. It includes iPods (with free engraving on all products) iMacs, accessories and other products (not iPhone) I just bought a 2nd iMac with the discount – sweet!

  41. Scott Smith on July 11, 2009 at 3:19 pm

Jodi, we had the same experience with jamie’s. She had so many thousands of photos, and since iPhoto was the default photo viewer, it tried to index them all. It can’t handle it.Instead of showing a warning about this being an issue, the machine failed to boot. We had to re-install the OS, and disable iPhoto.Since then we’ve had numerous glitches here and there, software that won’t run.I also have a G4 at the office. Nothing new will run on it. All the Safari, MSN IM, Opera, etc., all require OSX 10.5 or higher – and it only has 10.39 or something. The company won’t buy an upgrade so I’m stuck with a very old version of Safari.I personally spend hours a day in CS3, both on a Mac and on a high end Dell PC. I see virtual no performance difference between the two (both have 4GB RAM and 10KRPM hard drives). The keyboard shortcuts on the Mac, to me, are clumsy, compared to the PC. Maybe it’s because I’ve been using PC Photoshop since version 2 came out (on 7 3.5″ floppy discs), but for production work, I’ll put myself up against anyone using a Mac.

  42. Tamara on July 11, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Good Luck! I hope the rest is smoothe.

  43. Bettie on July 11, 2009 at 10:17 pm

What a horrible experience. I have been a mac user for three years and have had my MAD moments with Apple, but I have no desire to go back to a pc. The MP is my powerhorse too! I would recommend getting your biz images in Aperture or Lightroom – well suited to workflow for professionals. ….hang in there!!

  44. Pam on July 12, 2009 at 12:51 am

So sorry to hear this, Jodi. Computer issues can be a nightmare ESPECIALLY to photographers since we depend so heavily on them for our lively hood. I have 3 external hard drives connected to my hp for my photos and biz documents. No matter what brand you have, it seems like they all have problems at one time or another.I hope that this is all resolved quickly for you.I also wanted to say that maybe that one particular Apple store was a problem, and hopefully a call to the company’s customer service will solve the issue.Good luck.

  45. Penny on July 12, 2009 at 1:51 pm

I’m so sorry Jodi! It’s all going to be fixed. I’m certain you’re already on this, but I would be keeping VERY close contact with the on-line store you ordered it from. In fact, nicely breathing down their necks at all times would be order. A brand new one is required…anything less wouldn’t be sufficient (IMO). I have all MAC (Macbook Pro, screens, etc, which I bought at the store, not on line) and I’ve been very happy with their products and service. Never had problems so far (knock wood – tap on head LOL).

Golly Jodi – what a nightmare. I hope it all turns out super for you, and you get to enjoy your MAC:)

Hmmm … somewhat entertaining that before in the other thread about ‘should i get a mac?’ everyone was saying ‘join our camp because we have no problems and it is so good and what pro graphic artists/movie/photographers use … etc’. Now you are getting posts in this thread ‘ya … i’ve had problems at some point as well’.The grass is not greener on the other side.

Don’t lose hope! I promise in the end you will be glad you switched. My husband and I switched after our pc crashed several times and I lost most of my photos:( it takes a little while to get accustomed to the difference but it works seamlessly with the iPhone and so many other things. We are in LOVE. So chin up and plough through, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Btw you can get parallels and if you,d rather use the windows you can. It works the same on a Mac as it does on a pc. That way you can run all of your pc software and have the best of both worlds. I agree with previous posters, as long as it’s man made there will be problems that pop up occasionally. Just stay on the apple store manager and usually the problems will be resolved. Our apple store is the bomb and every time we go we always end up with something cool and a bunch of free stuff. We are self employed and after our company pc computer crashed with all of our business files my husband made the plunge for the Mac computer and we do not regret it. Good luck!
