Family Photos Edited Using Photoshop Actions

Sometimes just looking at a photo, it is hard to decide which Photoshop actions or editing steps to take. Occasionally it helps to create a variety of looks, and then pick your favorite to share. An easy way to do this is using Snapshots in Photoshop via the History Palette (here is a tutorial).

Thank you to Tracy Joy for sending in these photos from a family portrait shoot. It was fun to see your step-by-step photoshop edits as well as the variety of looks you achieved on the same images.

Each photo is labeled with the Photoshop actions that Tracy used.

  1. For this image, she ran Color Sensation to add contrast and a light color pop.  Then on each image she used one additional action on top of that.
  2. For a cross processed look, she used Urban Ocean Photoshop action (on top of the Color Sensation edit).
  3. For a vintage look, she used Grammie’s Old Fashion Vintage action (also on top of the Color Sensation edit).
  4. And finally she used the Vanilla Ice Cream Black and White photoshop action from the Quickie Collection (also atop the Color Popped, higher contrast edit).

All actions she used were from the Quickie Collection Set. Which look do you prefer?

And here is a larger group portrait of the family. This was edited with Color Flair, Crackle, and Fingerpaint. Then for the last version, vanilla soft serve was applied to achieve a rich, soft black and white image.

As far as black and white(ish)goes I’m in love with that vanilla ice cream action. I must go and get that! Where is it? In what pack? How could you choose the best pic? I love them all so much for each one of them has it’s own special “mood.” It would be so hard to decide! Love your tutorials/posts. Makes me so inspired.

Actually in the end I think the original is best in my eyes – sorry. Although the other colours are brought out and look fantastic in the others – especially colour sensation. I feel the skin is just washed out, and left with little skintone. Actually the light blule shirt on the younger guy loses a bit too.
