How to Edit Darker Skin Newborn Babies Using Photoshop Actions: Part 2

Editing newborn images can be very time consuming. But it does not have to be.

Getting skin tones just right and making your images have that dreamy look about them can be challenging. When editing images of ethnic babies it is important to maintain their correct skin tones. If they are slightly red or jaundiced this can be a challenge.  I will show you how this is no longer hard for me because I use MCP’s Newborn Necessities Actions It has decreased my editing time in half and gives my images that beautiful glow that they deserve.

Here are a few before and after images. These images were all taken in studio with a one light and reflector set up. They were shot in JPEG with a Canon 5d MII.

Editing steps:

1. Ran “Sugar and Spice” action, decreased the opacity to 40%

2. Ran “Keepsakes” action as is

3. Ran “It’s a girl”, decreased the opacity to 10%

4. Ran “Paint on Red Baby Fix”, decreased the opacity to 35% and painted onto the cheeks, forehead and eyelids

5. Ran “Sharp Eyelashes” and painted on the eyelashes and lips at 100% opacity

6. Ran “White Blankie Fix” and painted on fur at 75% opacity

7. Ran “Frosted Vignette” at 40% opacity

Editing steps:

1. Use spot healing tool to edit minor blemishes to face

2. Ran “Sugar and Spice”, decreased opacity to 40%

3. Ran “Keepsakes” as is

4. Ran “Brighten the Midtones” decreased opacity to 15%

5. Ran “Paint on Red Baby Fix”, decreased the opacity to 30% and painted onto cheeks, forehead and eyelids

6. Ran “Sharp Eyelashes” and painted on the eyelashes and lips at 100% opacity

7. Ran “Natural Vignette” as is

Black and White Edit:


Took edited image above and ran “Bedtime B&W” decreased the opacity to 45%
