Since the launch of this brand new set Wednesday, we’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to achieve the look in our banner image above.  So, we decided to show you a step-by-step tutorial. Thank you to Andrea Tate from Crave Photography for the use of her beautiful image.

Showcasing every season:

Since we decided to sell each season separately as well as at a cost-savings for buying the full set, all examples shown on the product page use specific seasons and the season extras. We did not mix seasons. But, if you buy them all, there are no limits to what you can combine.

Each of the 4 sets has 20+ unique seasonal actions and includes the bonus set of 25 extra fine-tuning actions. To learn more about the Four Seasons action set or to purchase, click here. Thank you!

The Before Image:

Amazing straight out of the camera – you can see that we had a great foundation to work with for this image.

Spring Splendor Edit:

Spring reminds us of light and airy with a touch of haze.  We captured that here by using:

  1. Spring Synthesis Light Mix and Match: Spring Splendor Base at the default opacity. Then turned on Antique and Vintage Postcards, each left at the default 20% opacity.
  2. Directional Sunlight: Activated the right corner/angled at 60%.
  3. Hemispheres at the default 37%.

Summer Solstice Edit:

For summer, I usually think of bold, vibrant colors.  Here we accomplished exactly that:

  1. Summer Blend Light Mix and Match: Summer Solstice Base at the default opacity. Then turned on Putting Green and Sunflower Fields, each left at the default 20% opacity.
  2. Directional Sunshine: Activated the right corner/angled at 60%.
  3. Summer Burn: painted on at 100% opacity on the background and the dress coat to add color and depth – layer at 52% opacity.
  4. Warm Summer Vignette at 24%.

Autumn Equinox Edit:

When I think of Autumn, I think of rich reds, warm browns, and golden tones. Here’s how we interpreted Fall:

  1. Autumn Brew Standard Mix and Match: Autumn Equinox Base at the default opacity. Then turned on Japanese Maple at 51% and Warm Cider at 55%.
  2. Burnt Firewood painted on with a brush at 100% opacity on the background and the dress coat to add rich, warm hues – layer at 42% opacity.
  3. Dark Cherry Vignette at 24%.

Winter Whirlwind Edit:

Ah, winter… Burrrr.  To me winter means cool tones or even something completely void of color.  That’s why the default edit on our Winter Whirlwind Base turns your photo into a black and white. But the best part is that you can use it as a color edit or vintage too.

We did two edits for winter. One B&W and the other color. Here’s the Black and White edit first:

  1. Winter Mix Standard Mix and Match: Winter Whirlwind Base at the default opacity. Then turned on Peach Cobbler at 42% and Champagne at 62%.
  2. To add extra contrast, we used Hemispheres at 45%.

For the color version:

  1. Winter Mix Standard Mix and Match: Winter Whirlwind Base at the default opacity. Turned B&W layer off.  Then turned on Peach Cobbler at 16% and Champagne at 53%.
  2. To add extra contrast, we used Hemispheres at 45%.
  3. Eclipse Vignette: turned on the b&w and the brown vignettes at the default opacity to add a darken edge.

it seems so complicated! with so many steps, i might as well do this by hand. couldn’t you compress all of these various actions into one bigger action, so that it’s a one click thing? then various layers could be adjusted if needed.

E, Actually each one has many many steps and layers in folders. We have the mix and match actions that run the base plus all the looks – so I believe we did do exactly what you are asking. Most of the edits were mainly one or two actions as I used the mix and match to make them. But that is complex to explain on a slide. Jodi

ok that makes more sense! just all the different names and percentages in this post were boggling my mind! thanks!!

It is literally moving a slider to change the opacity – and you just move it until you like it – but often the default opacity is fine and then what I use.

My favorite is the Summer Solstice edit, because it is more in the style of how I edit my images. I did, however, purchase the Autumn Equinox and I really like that edit here, too.

I love them all but love love the winter color and black and white

I love both summer and winter, I just purchased winter and am having loads of fun playing with it. I saw that someone said it seems complicated–it really isn’t. It is super easy straight “out of the box”, but you can also adjust the actions to suit your taste if you wish. The many “extras” that are included with each season make this a whole lot of value; I got so much more than I was expecting. This was my first purchase from MCP but it surely won’t be my last.

Have fun playing – it definitely comes with lots of goodies and is easy to use. And quick. Not sure you could do many of the actions by hand easily – as some are 15-20 steps in an action 🙂 Anyway, Becky, if you happen to see this comment and have a minute, can you go leave a quick review on the product page? Thank you so much.Jodi
