If you love deep, rich color popped images, you can achieve this look in a few quick clicks using the MCP Fusion Photoshop Actions.

Hi! My name is Annie of Annie Whitaker Photography. I was honored when Jodi asked me to do a blueprint on this image because I have learned so much and grown in my own photography from reading past step-by-step tutorials. These photos were part of a family session. I wanted the images of the three boys to be fun, modern and colorful.

Consistency is important:

To maintain a similar look with all of the images, I used the same workflow on each to achieve this look. All actions were from the MCP Fusion Photoshop Actions Set.

  1. I started with “Ellie’s Field of Dreams” with the cool layer turned off, and the “One Click Color” Base turned on which gave the images a clean, crisp look. I selected this action as I love the toning.
  2. Next, I wanted to brighten up the colors in the picture and add a vignette. To do this, I used “magic markers” at 70% opacity with a large white brush just around the parameter of the picture. Next, I made the brush smaller  ran it over the tie, red shirt and blue jeans at 50% opacity.
  3. I finished editing the images by using the “High Definition Sharpening” action at 75% to make the picture sharp and ready for printing.

Hi Annie (or maybe this one is for Jodie),Love the rich color pop, but when I ran Ellie’s Field of Dreams, I have no ‘Cool’ layer to turn off. I only have three layers inside the folder – Color Adjust, Touch of Warmth and Contrast. Am I missing the Cool layer do you think? I ony ran Ellie’s Field of Dream, not the Fusion Mix and Match.

The color adjust cools things – I wonder if that is what she meant. There is no cool layer. I would need to ask her as I am not sure 🙂

Many thanks Jodi, I’ll keep an eye out for her reply.

Hi Amanda,When I run these actions, the layers for “one click color” show up in addition to those for the other specific actions. I’m not exactly sure why. Regardless, the “cool it” can be turned off when you run “one click color”. I like warmer images as a personal preference so I tend to turn off any cooling effects. I hope this helps! Sorry for the confusion!
