Enjoy this FUN Free Snowflake Bokeh Brush – a little Christmas Gift for you.

We wish you a blessed Christmas.  Enjoy time with your family and make sure to document the memories, and also to be a part of them.

We have a little goodie for you at the bottom of this post – a few fun brushes for Photoshop and Elements.

The details:

Using the fantastic tutorial on Creating Shaped Bokeh, I took things a step further and purchased a “snowflake” shaped paper punch in order to achieve a perfect snowflake shape. Then I created a snowflake shaped attachment, placed it on my 75-300 mm lens and photographed Christmas lights. Here are a few of the results.

Not only were these fun to make, they are great to reuse on other images.  I made them into brushes and wanted to share them with MCP Actions fans.  I converted them to brushes for Photoshop and Elements – they can be stamped on your images at whatever opacity you like.

Here’s an example of them in use:

There are three different snowflake brushes in the set. Two of them have a scattered appearance and the third is a single snowflake which is great to help balance things out.

To use brushes simply install them in Photoshop or Elements and then on new layers apply the brush at the opacity and location desired.

For an added “scattered” appearance you can go into the brush settings and adjust the brush tip appearance by playing with the “shape dynamics” and “scattering” option.

This tutorial and brush set was created exclusively for MCP Actions customers by Carly Bee Photography. Carly Benjamin is a natural light photographer based out of the Toronto area. You can see more of her work on her website Carly Bee Photography and follow her on her Facebook page.

hi teresa! thank you for sharing so much! i LOVE that photo of the baby!can i ask where you found that knitted “sling” the baby is in?

Hi Tricia, absolutely! It was actually someone from Etsy. Her name is Angel but many many MANY knitters & crocheters will create something like this for anyone. You can do a search on Etsy for something like this or create an open “bid” and see who contacts you to make one for you. 🙂 HTH!

Awesome tips..my cousin recently asked me to photograph her wedding and I’m very apprehensive about it (would be my first wedding). The whole “I might miss something” conversation keeps coming up. As much as I’d love to do the wedding for her, it scares me to death! I don’t plan on getting into wedding photography as of yet, but would love some first time tips. What is your camera setup? Do you use a flash for your inside ceremony images? That’s the part of the whole day that makes me the most nervous..will I have enough light? I have the Canon 5d Mark II and plan on renting some L series lenses to get the best quality, but not sure if I should rent a flash too. Any help would be wonderful!

Hi Katy! Thanks for all the questions, I’m glad to try to answer them! The funny thing is, I think that it’s the crazy stress that REALLY keeps you going! You know how anxious the bride gets with all that planning, all that adrenaline? That really kicks in on the wedding day for you and I just THRIVE on that. Maybe I’m crazy?? haha I, too, use the 5D Mark II with my Canon 20D as my backups (because hey, ya never know what may happen). I always have a flash on my cameras. I try to use available light whenever possible but sometimes you run into situations where you have to use flash. MANY churches now will not allow you to use flash but when you come across those that don’t mind, it’s nice to have the choice if you want to or not. Make sure to have a diffuser for your flash (even if it’s a cheap-o omni-bounce) but more importantly, know how to dial down (or up) your flash’s power. If you are unsure of how to do that, read your manual, google it or email me and I’ll let ya know. 😉 Make sure you ASK the parish is flash is allowed too. Lots of times, I’ll have a prime lens on one of my backups (my 50mm 1.4) but my main lens is the 24-85mm. I have yet to buy a L series lens. I know, a crime. 😛 What do you photograph normally? Portraits? Outdoors? Indoors? Studio? Is this a hobby? An external flash is really a must as the on-camera flash is horrible to use for anything (professional looking anyway). I think your best bet would be to buy an external. 580 or 580exII if you can afford it, otherwise I think it’s the 430ex may do just fine. Everyone will have their faves for their L series lens but I know I’m looking forward to renting the 24-105. Similar to the range I have now but higher quality. Renting is def the best way to go before you go and spend a ton of $$$ for a lens you may not use all the time.Honestly, feel free to contact me with any questions, even if it’s just jitters. I’d be happy to try to help you. 🙂 Best of luck to you!

Brushes load into the brush section of PS – it is a brush file – not an action.
