I was in Florida visiting my parents. They loved the warmer weather (as we left in snow and came back to snow). Here are a few snaps from our trip. Keep in mind that while I did use an SLR, I consider most of these snapshots. Sometimes snapshots can be way more important and memorable than a portrait. Enjoy – I would love to here your comments.
Here are a few pool shots:
Here is a storyboard with Jenna and my husband.
On the boat – Jenna driving with her Papa. The Ellie hugging her Nana.
And Jenna being silly with her dad on the bow and her peaking through to see him. Yes I know – I chopped her foot…
We were this close to a cruise ship – actually closer but this looked like a postcard shot.
And Ellie showing me she can take photos just a little better than me…
There was a bridge we went under that had tons of iguanas. This was my favorite shot – shot with my 70-200 at 200mm. We were in a boat. Look how close I looked to it.
I need to get back in practice taking shots of them in the sun – a little too much squinting going on – but I loved it just the same…
And vacation photos would not be complete without a sunset photo. This was taken from the balcony of my parents condo. The buildings they look at are not that amazing so I did more of a silhouette shot.

I love the vacation pics. Makes me long for summer. I have to say, these are not mere “snapshots”. Love the first one, the one of your two girls and the cruise ship, oh and the sunset too. OK, question. I’m a newbie to professional photography and am struggling with post processing large amounts of photos (natural light). It takes me way too long and I’m not having that much fun in the process. Tips/tricks? I too take a ton of vacation, personal photos. What kind of post are you doing on the photos for yourself? Any quickie methods? And, off the subject of your vacation, I’m having a particular problem with accurate skin tones. Any (actions) help in this area?
Looks like a blast! 🙂
Thank you!Johanna, thanks – I appreciate your thoughts and feedback.I love natural light though I feel stronger inside versus outside. This may be since I live in a cold climate and get less outside time. As for editing, most of my photos are edited using my actions (unless I am going for a look that I cannot achieve that way). This group of photos used my complete workflow (either “touch of color” or “color burst” depending on the photo. Then if needed, I ran magic skin (usually the “magic powder” and usually at a low opacity so it is natural) plus skin cast blast (which if color is off I use – if not I skip), and then if needed run the eye doctor. I quickly adjust the opacity of any layers or mask what makes sense to. The workflow has sharpening so I am done. I save. Then once I go to upload, I run a batch using Dr. Russell Brown’s 1-2-3 script. I run my personal frame and logo action (not one for sale) and have it resize. And sharpen for web as well. Then I am done unless I chose to do black and white or vintage or storyboards. Does that help?Let me know if you have more questions, Jodi
I love the shot of her on the bow playing with daddy! And the sunset shot is amazing!
What great shots! Looks like you had a great time, you need to post ellie’s shot! LOL Oh on the storyboards, If you would make a storyboard that is easily customizable (ie, different sized holes and easily placing the picture “under” the hole, that would be awesome!)
Yes, that really helps. I was ready to purchase your workflow action package and this just confirms it. You sell it well! I don’t yet have a website ready but I’m thinking of a blog first anyway. Resizing for web came up yesterday and I’ve read many different opinions on which method is better for 10mp and higher. Can you expound on the Dr’s 123 script and also on your method of resizing/sharpening as relates to the photos you post on your blog. Thank you for your open, honest dialogue. Some people might think that you would negatively affect the sale of your products by giving away so much good (and free)information when actually it has the opposite effect. We want more! I have 22 years of experience in sales and marketing (my career before kids) and I am always charmed to see it work as it should. Of course the old addage of the cobbler’s wife applies – I need to start using my past experience in my new (business) life! So much to do! Keep up the good work!
Johanna, How about if I do a tutorial soon on sharpening for web? Sound good? Here is a link to Russell Brown’s site. The 1-2-3 script is amazing – as it makes batching way easier than the regular PS Batch Processing. Here is a link:http://www.russellbrown.com/Hope that helps.
sounds great. checked out 123 and the Dr’s other scripts. I agree, way easier. thanks again!
Wow! Love the colors and how you capture light. For sure so near and dear to your heart! Looks like you guys had a stellar time.
