While every company will have slightly different guidelines for preparing an image for canvas printing, I have special guest blogger, Color Incorporated, on today telling us their way for preparing your images. I hope this helps you out.

Gallery Wrapped Canvas is an excellent way to present photographs. Each image is carefully printed onto canvas, sprayed with protective Hahnemuhle sprays and wrapped around a 1″ inch wooden frame. Special Tyvek material fills in the back, and protects the wrap and extends the lifetime of these products. Each of ColorInc’s Gallery Wraps is created by hand and fully finished, giving it a very polished look. They are an excellent choice for image presentation.
Creating images for Gallery Wraps can be a little tricky, and involves a few more steps than a standard print. Begin with the original, un-cropped image in the sRGB Color Space. (Gallery Wraps, like all Color Incorporated products, require images to be in the sRGB Color Space before submitting).
One of the most important parts of preparing an image for wrapping is by cropping the image with large amounts of bleed. Gallery Wrapped Canvas requires two inches of bleed on all sides of the photo. (This means, if you are sending us a 16×20 to wrap, you need to create a JPEG file that is 20×24). This becomes vitally important with respect to the aspect ratio – if you don’t account for the extra size a Gallery Wrap will require, then when you place the image into ROES, you’ll have to crop slightly more to account for the bleed.
Typically, we recommend cropping the Gallery Wrap in ROES. This way, you don’t need to pull the image into Photoshop (which can save you some time). It also gives you some extra space to work with, to account for the bleed areas.
Once your image is appropriately sized, just place it into ROES and add it to your order. The Gallery Wrap templates will show you which part of your image will be wrapped on the side of your frame. ColorInc typically turns around Gallery Wrapped Canvas in 5-7 business days. Enjoy your print!
Include the code MCP0808 with your first ROES order in the Special Instructions field to get 50% off! This will be taken off manually, but contact them via phone if you have questions.
