Craziest Thing Happened to Me Last Night

1st I must apologize for not picking a winner yesterday.  I will pick both the winner of the “Happy Hat” and the “Off Camera Flash” Guide tonight.

But here is a story worth reading, something that likely would only happen to me…

We went to the North American International Auto Show Charity Preview black tie gala last night.  I hate getting that dressed up.  I dislike fancy dresses, but even more than that loathe high heels.  I will avoid them as much as possible.  Why is being taller dressier anyway?  I am 5′ 2″ and proud to be short.

I wore Uggs in the car (it was -5 degrees out – before windchill was factored in) – and then changed to heels once we arrived.  After about 30 minutes walking around checking out cars and socializing with mainly people my husband knows, the heels come off. I carried them around.  About 3 hours passed, and much walking around Cobo Hall with no shoes on…

We left to go to the Children’s Hospital After Glow Party at the Motor City Casino.  Well this was not just any party, it was a Spa Party.  Food (like lamb chops and sushi), foot massages, slippers, and more…  Perfect!

Well almost perfect…  After eating some food, my husband and I went in search of some dessert, fruit, something sweet.  We go in this smaller room where they have fruit and a bowl of chocolate you can scoop on the fruit.  Yum.  Almost yum.  Until…

Well your hint is that it was the “rain room” and that I often can be found in the wrong place at the wrong time.  All of the sudden, we are getting soaked.  It is literally raining from the ceiling.  Pouring!  We run out of the room into the hall – everyone staring.  We are drenched.  It turns out a “rain room” is used in a spa to shower people who take a mud bath…  Who would have known.  It also turns out that the button to turn it on is located outside the room, just at the spot where someone who was standing and eating food might perhaps lean on the wall and it accidentally turn on the “rain.”  Well we are proof, it works.

So there we are in black tie attire, soaked.  The Motor City personnel was great.  They took my husband’s tux jacket and somehow got it dry.  My clothes were a tad more difficult.  They brought me a robe – which I wore the rest of the evening.  Needless to say, I was the hit of the party.  Everyone wanted to know how to get one of these cool spa robes.  The staff kept saying how they were so glad it was us (as I replied, “this is a good story…”)

Anyway, it was too funny not to share.  I hope you enjoyed this laugh with me (not at me).  The picture was taken after “the incident.”  I had the “rain room” shot with us running out soaked too.

The good news is money was raised for important causes to help children in Metro Detroit.
