Win $50 Gift Certificates to MCP by Sharing Your New Year’s Resolutions

When I awoke today, in a bed at my parents’ house in Atlanta, where we are visiting, I started thinking… What will my resolutions be this year. I have some personal and professional goals for this upcoming year.  Call them goals, call them resolutions, call them things to accomplish.

For personal resolutions, I resolve to get back to the gym 4-5 days a week (along with hundreds of millions of others). I just went to a new endocrinologist and plan to work with her to sort out my thyroid and monitor other potential health issues.

As far as family resolutions, I plan to put down the computer more when my kids or husband are around. I am so passionate about my work developing Photoshop actions, blogging and teaching photographers through my MCP Actions business. It is wonderful to love what you do but not at the expense of family.  I use the phrases “in a minute” or “when I am done with this email” far too often.  In this upcoming year, I am going to try very hard to finish my work between 9-4pm, other than the occasional nighttime Photoshop Workshop.

As for professional resolutions, I just launched my new website.  This was a 2009 resolution. The new blog design did not quite make it, so that will move into a 2010 goal (sooner than later). I will continue blogging 5+ days a week, with informative content, fun contests, and more.

I resolve to spend less time on email in 2010.  Email is part of my business, but I need to realize that I cannot answer every photography or Photoshop question.  I now have a FAQs in place on my website, as well as many resources listed throughout. I will add to these as needed, as well as address other FAQs in monthly blog posts.

My new website will help me focus on development instead of fulfillment. This should allow me to create and launch a few new Photoshop action sets for 2010. I may have some products for Elements users too, as I have hired someone to work with me in this arena.

If I cannot accomplish everything, I resolve to either “let it go” or re-work how I do things.  I may look at outsourcing or hiring contractors if needed.

Enough on my resolutions.  What are yours?  Share at least one personal and one professional goal/resolution you have for 2010. To qualify, you must enter these in the comment section of this post on the MCP Blog (NOT on Facebook or Twitter as those comments cannot be integrated).

This contest is a quick one – you have until Midnight eastern time on New Year’s Eve (so just over 14 hours to get your posts in).

Winners will be picked on New Year’s Day.

Please tweet, blog about and/or post to Facebook to let others know of this fun contest.  The more that participate the more prizes available.

Prizes: For every 100 comments – one $50 gift certificate for the MCP Actions Store (good for Photoshop actions and purchases over $50) will be given away.

My new years resolution, lame as it may sound is to not have any resolution at all. I am tired of setting myself up for failure! All I want for the new year is to stay positive and live it to its fullest with my three boys and husband. Happy New Year Jodi!

Get to bed at a decent time, stop staying up late to get “one more thing (dish/edit/laundry/clean/kids paperwork/etc) done.” I work better in the morning anyways when I am fresh and rested!

Resolutions, oh how I loathe thee! But here we go…. Personal Resolution: To buy only what I love or need and spend less time buying and then returning things! Professional Resolution: To accept my current job situation and stop trying to engineer something “better.”

My resolution is to never neglect telling my loved ones how much they mean to me! It seems this sometimes slides through the cracks when the days are chaotic and hectic!

My NY resolutions are to try to take a picture a day of my girls, they grow up so fast, I really want to document this year and get my camera out more. To drink less Dr. Peppers, those are so addicting! To be a better wife / mother / daughter / sister and to live everyday to the fullest!

My resolution is similar to yours- I resolve to take control of my business and not let it control me. I can’t continue to work for hours with little exercise. It’s just not healthy and I have to make time for myself to at least take a walk every day! Happy New Year!!

I have so many professional goals in 2010, but I would say one of the most important would be to get a NYC photographers monthly meet-up off the ground. Photographers around here are too competitive, so my hope is to get some photographers together once a month and make everyone see that we don’t have to compete so much; we’re all in this together.

My main personal goal is to just get my wedding off without a hitch and marry the most wonderful man in the world in nine months. Oh, and fit into my wedding dress. 🙂

    1. Become more organized. (original, huh)
    2. Keep up with my 365 blog, but not stress too much about it if I don’t.

    Happy New Year!

**Hope this isn’t duplicate, got some sort of posting too fast, slow down message???

For personal resolutions, definitely NOT staying up so late. I have insomnia but I need to get it under control. lol Another resolution is to try out Zumba, which I’ve been DYING to try out for a while but always make excuses (don’t have the time/money). We all need to do something for ourselves. Even better if it helps you work out. 😉 One last resolution/goal is to have another child…or at least conceive in 2010 😉

Business-wise, I need to find a better balance between the photography biz and personal life. I spend way too much time during my wedding season online and doing things for the biz. It is a good thing because it helps me be successful, but I’d like to find more of an equal balance between the two. I think we all struggle with this, esp those with families.

I have three: 1. to remove ALL cuss words from my vocabulary (it’s so trashy), 2. to stop hounding my husband about not appreciating TODAY, I’m going to appreciate TODAY and maybe my ‘law of attraction’ actions will rub off on him, and last but not least, 3. I will get in shape, not wasting my entire 30’s being 25 lbs over-weight! They say if you write ’em down, you’re likely to accomplish ’em! There…they’re written down!!! 😉

My new year’s resolution is to smile each time one of my sweet children look at me. I am going to “live” the thankfulness I feel, of my families health, and just being together by being happy and giving that happiness to them when they look to their mother.

My personal goal is to figure out a way to get myself out of debt. My professional goal is to keep up with my Project 365 and to get my boudior business up and running this year.

Wow I actually was thinking about making some Serious resolutions for this new decade as I worked through the night. I have some personal family issue’s that need some working through and without going into detail..need to be sorted out Soon. I tend to shy away from confrontation, but that has gotten me into more than One problem in my life. So no more! I resolve to heal some wounds and move forward without looking back.

And I have to laugh Jodi, because my husband goes Nuts when he calls me and I say “In a minute..” He has banned the phrase from my lips =)

  19. December 31, 2009 at 9:49 am — Reply

My personal goal for 2010: Eat healthier and move more, I know a 5k marathon is NOT in my future, but just being more active and not such a computer couch potatoe is very doable!I have alot of weight to lose, but I will break it down into 10 pound increments.

My business goal: To learn ALL I can and learn and practice more with my studio lights and not be afraid of lighting challenges indoors and out. To be able to create beautiful images no matter what the situation!

My Family Goal: To actually go on vacation with my husband and 2 kids. We have not been on a vacation since my 10 year old was 9 months old, so my 6 year old has never been on a vacation!! We are going to take a week and actually LEAVE the state!

  20. December 31, 2009 at 9:51 am — Reply

Hmm well I posted, but I guess it “poofed”.
I have some family issues to resolve with a few people close to me this year. I tend to shy away from confrontation and this only makes things worse. So No more!

I also have to laugh because my husband has banned the phrase “Inna minute” I’ve used it so much lol. So I Really try to not go down that road =)

Jodi, I was also just thinking about New Year’s resolutions … at the top of the list is to be a better mom. I can sooo identify with you on the “in a minute” or “after I’m finished this” scenario. I sit in front of my macbook A LOT, way more than I’d like to admit. On the professional side, I’d like to learn to better utilize photoshop (and actions), learn to use my camera more creatively AND raise my pricing toward the end of the year. Thanks for the contest Jodi, I recently purchased several of your actions and an AMAZED! Happy New Year 🙂

  22. December 31, 2009 at 9:53 am — Reply

I normally don’t make New Year’s resolutions, but I am with you on the idea of getting work done during specific hours vs. random here and there which runs into evenings. (The exercise thing is always something I start out with in January just to get rid of the pounds added a la Christmas cookies!!)
Thanks for all you do, Jodi, & Happy New Year!!

My personal goals: proactively increasing my health through consistent exercise and healthier eating of mostly vegetables, fruits and grains.
Professional goals: increase my photography skills through more practice, focusing mostly on composition and further developing my photography style

  24. December 31, 2009 at 9:57 am — Reply

I actually have not thought a moment about this. But as I sit here, it will be to promote my business in all ways that I can. I am growing and creating new products for my clients and and hope to make each one of them few unique and special.

Personal resolutions: Spend more time with my husband and kids; and finish up my school course so that I can *truly* work from home and be with my family more.

Business resolution: Get back into the swing of things with my camera. I’ve been slacking in the shooting department for almost a year now, due to personal time constraints. I miss it, and I want it back.. for business purposes in the future, or even just as a part-time hobby!

My personal resolution is to spend less time at work and more with my boys and doing the things I enjoy. I have three photography resolutions: 1) Learn Lightroom 2) Learn all about my new D300! 3) Finalize my photobook project and produce one before the end of the year. Great post, Jodi, and good luck with your new blog. I want to thank you also for all the time you put in to posting such helpful topics for us. Happy New Year!

professional – to worry less about the things i can’t control, and get the courage to get out and do some local marketing

Resolutions: get back to exercising (I was good last year & then we moved… sigh)… And as far as professional: Find a few more fun Senior sessions to do. What can I say? I love doing Senior sessions.

I share many of the same goals as you Jodi. Personally I want to get back into excersizing regularily, set specific work hours so I can walk away from work instead of ALWAYS feeling like I’m working.

Professionally I would like to find an agent to work with on my book project, continue to streamline my workflow with my new assistants, and build a sleady influx of clients for my blog book business.

    Happy New Year!

I have been thinking about this a lot as well. Particularly after seeing my peers, like Jodi:), mention less time in front of the computer, and how family is the one paying the price or our passion for photography. I was talking with a good friend the other day about this and she said “Resolutions are not something I believe in since they always get broken (this friend also has PhD in psychology) but I do believe in INTENTIONS.”

    For 2010 I INTEND to:
    1) Spend less time away from my children and more time being fully present in the moments I have with them.
    2) Scale back my business but be productive – focus on the areas of photography that really matter to ME, not my clients.
    3) Set boundaries – when my heart isn’t really into it (nor my gut/instinct/etc), I’ll listen to my heart. When it just doesn’t feel right – say no or I wish I could (Thanks to Travis Guggelman)
    4) Keep my me time for me – it will keep me a better person, someone I actually like and really true to myself and my needs – this is not being selfish it’s practicing self-care
    5) Enjoy the journey – every day
    6) Breathe deep – lots – every time I need it – it costs nothing
    7) Dive into learning from the best of the best – my peers who truly know how to be teachers/mentors/contibutors – be judicious about workshops/seminars – find the best of the best on all levels – not just looking for a silver bullet

These are my intentions, no resolutions, just pure intentions to be better on all fronts and maybe to find joy again after a year of losing that somewhere – joy doesn’t mean perfect – it means contentment and waking up in the morning with gratitude for another day:)

This year I am making an un-resolution! I am picking something that I’ve done this past year (2009) and going to KEEP doing it. It’s about focusing on the positive and not all the negative things that need changed, but encouraging myself to keep doing something positive. So what is that un-resolution? I’m going to keep date night with my husband! My hubby has been laid off for a year, so date night has to be economical…but it’s something positive I want to keep doing this new year…it doesn’t have to be a $120 dinner…ice skating for $4 worked this week. My hubby is so very important to me (obviously), but he often takes the back seat to the kids, my elderly parents, my job and yep even the dogs sometimes (my 3 dogs are pushy when they want a walk). So my un-resolution is to keep date night to focus about the most important man in my life!

Happy New Year, Jodi! Thanks for al you do for us, your followers.
In my world if “stuff” doesn’t make it to the top half of the list, it can be X’d off or moved to the next day/week/month.

My personal resolutions are to live in the moment more, and incorporate 30 minutes of relaxation into each day. I’m also renewing my 40th birthday resolution to leave my comfort zone more often.

My professional goals are to market myself more toward the newborn market. Say “no, thank you” to gigs I don’t want, and to beef up the photo notecard and customs social stationery end of my business.

My new years resolution is that I hope that by doing a 365 blog, I will get the camera out a little bit more for personal growth. I also really want to work on my post processsing skills this year. I work my way around Photoshop, but I really want to expand my “photoshopin’ skillz” this year. ;D

My resolution is to relax a little on my stress level, even if everything isn’t finished by the end of the day, its no need to lose sleep. As long as the kids and hubby and I are together, fed, and happy thats all that really matters!

Professional- Come up with a marketing kit and actually use it!

Actually, I hope to accomplish many of the same things as you. But overall, I’d love to lose 50 pounds – I’ll begin by eating much better in the new year and eventually work in going to the gym. My health issues are also an ongoing battle that I’d love to overcome. I also need to get off the computer more. I like your 9-4 mentality and may give that a try. But I’ll admit, sometimes it’s the outlet I need too! One big thing to accomplish is to continue to learn how to use my camera to it’s fullest extent. I tried last year but dropped the ball. Now I’m pretty much stuck on the same settings for every photo. 🙁 So yeah, lots to work on this year. Happy new year to all!!

  43. December 31, 2009 at 10:23 am — Reply

Where do I start? I guess my number 1 resolution is to focus more on my health. I’ve neglected it and now I’m facing some serious health challenges. I will be no good to my husband and children if I’m sick! I plan to take time each day to exercise, meditate, and eat healthy. It will be a sacrifice, but one with massive benefits, I’m sure.

I also plan to be more creative with my photography this year. I’ve sort of become stuck in a creative rut. I want to push my boundaries and learn more about light and composition to really rock the photos this year!

  44. December 31, 2009 at 10:24 am — Reply

My husband and I both resolved to be more patient and kind with/to each other. I have resolved to simplify…not sure what that means but I see lots of Salvation Army drop offs in my future!

I turn 30 this year. My first goal is to have a style overhaul. I just had my third baby. So the goal is to loose the baby weight and update the wardrobe. Personal resolution – focus on the budget. We’ve got some big things we want to do in the next few years and unless we buckle down they won’t be possible.

Professional resolution – get connected again. I work with people spread all over the U.S. and being out of the office for 3 months on maternity leave, I’ve lost my connection with some of them. The beginning of the year will be spent refocusing on those I work with. Because they’re great folks and I miss them.

    Business resolution:

–Take one photo a day about my life (and I have to be in it somehow), so at the end of the year I have compiled a picture journal. No words, just pictures. I want to do this to challenge my creative thinking every day and tell a story through my images; also to incorporate new photography techniques. Hopefully my project will also draw and interest new clients who want to see different types of my photography. This is one step in many I want to take in creative marketing strategies.

    Personal resolution:
–I am one belt away from black in Taekwondo and Hapkido. Because of life circumstances it has been hard for me to want to keep disciplining myself. So my resolution is to persevere and get my black belt.

My New Year’s Resolution is to get my closets organized. Not shoe box organized…but cute totes, matching fabrics and sorted items organized :)My other new years resolution is to bump up my “artistic” photography. I do love shooting families, children and people in general but I am going to try my hand at still life, landscapes…just to learn and see something different 😉

Well, each year I try to choose a word for the year to be my guiding focus. Ali Edwards started the trend (I think it was her!) For 2010 my word is Quality… meaning, instead of making it a resolution to create 20 scrapbook layouts a month or take a photo each day… I will instead deliberately try to create quality in whatever I do and not worry about how much I am doing. I do this because last year I approached things from the perspective that if I just did more, I was more likely to strike gold. Well, sometimes I just created garbage, and that didn’t really help me. So my plan now is to approach from the other way… to more narrowly define my focus in the hopes of improving my gold to garbage ratio!

I love goal setting and do it often!!! My main goal is to simplify!!! (housework, clutter, unnessary stuff in my life, so alot of thinking is going on in my head!!) I want less in my life to have more. This will enable me to do more of what I really want, like scrapbook, play in PS, watch a movie, play the WII, most importantly to have quality family time.

    Happy New Year,

This year, I want to concentrate on becoming a better photographer. I am one year into learning photography and have so far to go!! I want to shoot more and better. That’s my resolutation…MORE and BETTER.

Oh, and on a personal note, I want to be more patient with my kids.

What a great contest for today! My personal resolution is to focus more on creating relationships and connections that sustain me and have fun with the people I love. Professionally, in 2010 I want to take my portrait photography to the next level, start charging like a ‘real’ photographer, which also mean working and producing like a ‘real’ photographer.

My professional resolutions: to be more creative with my sessions and just let them flow organically and to continue to make my business into what I really want ~ the business of my dreams! My personal resolutions: to take more candid photos of my family to capture the everyday moments that pass by too quickly and to get more organized! Oh, and use the Wii Fit I got for Christmas to get my mind and body calm and healthy again. Hello yoga!

My biggest New Year’s Resolution is to cut down my time on Facebook. I do not need to know what everyone is doing every ten minutes… really, I dont 🙂 I will still use my Facebook Fan Page http://www.facebook.co/robynlouisephotography but will try to cut back on the checking of other’s status updates 57 times every day!

Instead of other resolutions, I have created a list of 27 things that I want to accomplish by the time I turn 27… which is October 5th (and just about 270 days!). I have organized them by when they will happen in the year, and the two that are happening right away is swim three times a week (already have my pool pass) and do yoga for ten minutes, three times a week. I also have things like read ten local history books, canoe the bowron lakes, go camping, relax at the cabin, visit the VDL and Nihof stud farms in Holland (shooting a wedding there this July!!!), scuba dive in two more tropical destinations, and walk daily… to name a few things!! I am really looking forward to accomplishing these all by next October!

    Happy New Year Jodi!

My 2010 Resolutions is to accomplish the following:
    1) to increase my photography business this year. (don’t we all?) but for me to expand it to a point that having a full time is really optional and not a neccessiaty!
    2) to work on my weak area of photography and make them stronger and take my stronger points and define those as well. It’s all about being better the next time!
    3) to work out. work out. work out. work out. I’m on a path that leads to no where and I need to get off of it and get onto the healthier path!
    4) not to beat myself up so much. If the above goals, desires, needs are not completed, it’s ok. There is always next year. I’m still the winner over all and that I made it through another year!

I want to spend less time at the computer – I am too much of a perfectionist so I plan to have more confidence in what I do, then do it – and then move on to the next project. My business goal is to create a pricing list and put it on my website so people know what I do and how to hire me. I will also create a trifold and a poster and put it in birthing classes, doctors’ offices, etc. I wish all the best to each of you for the New Year, and may all your goals transform into realities!

My professional resolution is to, well….become a professional! I just picked up my first dslr last September and I have been constantly learning ever since, and there is still soooo much more to go. I can’t wait to see how much progress I can make in a year – everything needs improving! My personal resolution is to become more organized…again. I’m thinking of taking it slow, maybe one drawer a day to be cleaned out – no more “junk drawers” – I mean I have all year …right! Also, I am a chronic Coke drinker…I definately need to cut back on that. I think this is a great contest and “goood luck” to all who entered.(Good luck on the contest, and your resolutions!!)

I have been thinking about my resolutions for weeks now! A personal one will be to take a day each week to do something fun with the kids. Whether it be swimming, public skating, biking or going to the zoo, a day each week will be devoted entirely to them! This past year I’ve been really focusing at growing my business and I’m afraid to say that I was also the “in one more minute” mom! In terms of professional goals, I’m committed to getting my lighting down! I’ve been mostly a natural light girl, but it can be limiting for me so I’m planning on attending a few courses to figure out studio lighting and how to take my flash off camera! It’s going to be a great year!!

I have about a million. But most of all:

    1. I want my home to be more organized. Cleaner, yes, but also organized in the way we run things.
    2. I want to limit my hours working. I’m not sure how to do this quite yet, but working 7 days a week until 1-2 am only to get up with the kids a few hours later is not working.
    3. I want to eat right. I do want to lose weight but more than that…I want to have energy and be healthy.
    4. I want to reach out and help others more. I want to find ways that I can love other people.

I don’t usually make resolutions, but I think this year, I want to work on being more grateful for what I have.

Hey, great idea! I came up with my resolutions last night so this is a real easy one for me. On a personal level one of them is to also put things in the correct priority, God first, then family then work….so more time for family. And Photographically my winter will be spent learning more on photoshop and shooting more intentionally. Thank you for your many tutorials, they are a great source for me to learn and I love your actions, especially MCP magic skin…I use it ALL the time.

My new year’s resolution is to finally attack the daunting task of learning how to process RAW images. I feel like Photoshop has taken me these last few years to navigate without killing someone so the thought of starting with ACR or LR is a bit nauseating!

My resolutions are to live every day with authenticity and transparency. I have been way to passive and not always told people how I really feel when pushed. In the long run, it is best to say what’s on your mind, even if it ruffles a few feathers.

To take better care of myself. More time with God and my children, more sleep, exercise and no meal skipping.

And to check one thing off my to-do list everyday to build up my business, or improve my skills.

I have many goals and I’m actually doing the 100 in 1001 (100 things in 1001 days) but some of the major things I want to do in the next couple months for 2010 are:
-Run a 1/2 marathon in May
-Spiffy up various websites I have sitting on my plate
-Unleash the new pricing and services combine with better branding/marketing and overall organizationess. (Oh yeah, make up new words too)

HOWEVER, my mind-set is changing because I am seeing the importance of doing better for myself. Therefore, my personal resolution is not to only lose weight, but to become a healthier person: physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. My business goal is to take this passion I have for Photography and to fan the flame into a outrageous inferno and learn as much as I can of the art. I want to have a business that is known for not only incredible photography but for capturing the passion of life that I hope each person can achieve.

In 2010, my number one personal goal is to BE POSITIVE. This does not mean to be overly bright about all things, but to just think the best of people, to think positively about situations as they arise. My professional goal is pretty basic: when asked if I’m a photographer, I will say, “YES, I am.” No more minimizing this thing I love.

Personal Resolution- Stop worrying about what didn’t get done and focus on what did get done. Like the stairs may not have gotten vacuumed, but I prepared a home cooked meal that we all sat down at the table and ate as a family.

I am so good about capturing the essence of other families with my photography business…I want to make an specific effort to capture the little fun stuff that makes me smile about my own family! One my professional goals is learn more about Photoshop actually (a giftcard would come in handy there!), learn how to use it swiftly and effectively to cut down processing time and make my pictures go WOW…and learn about the cool stuff that it can do! My personal goal for 2010 is to be happier. I have so much to be thankful for and yet I have been so negative this whole year 🙁 So yes my personal goal is to be a happier and a more thankful person.. and maybe start eating right- ice cream for dinner last night was not a good idea.. and I have a cold!!

My professional goal (the main one anyway) is to be more organized. I am probably the most unorganized person on earth, I dont know how my business made it this far, being that unorganized. But it did (another one of those things I am thankful for 🙂 Yet I know I can’t continue that way for 2010.

So there it is Professional – Be more organized and Personal – Be happier. 🙂

*one* of my personal resolutions but by far the most important one is to spend more time with the fam! I spent the last four months working every weekend and feel like I missed out on so much. On a professional level, I bought a MacBook Pro (my first mac) back in September but because I’ve been so busy working, I haven’t spent much time learning the ins and outs of a Mac so that is definately on my list. Well, my goals are pretty much the same every year, only I do feel more positive and hopeful this year. 2010 – it’s such a good number, right? Top of my list is working out more and eventually be a runner this year; organize my photos and be done with it ( I tend to get sidetracked with this one); and to take more photos of my daily family life – perfect or not – I just want the memories to look back on.

    Great Contest Jodie!

I have spoke with my husband and we have together decided that with the new year we are going to try to be closer to God. We have been so far away from him for so long and it is time we took an honest step in making him the major part of our lives. With the plan of having a another child added to our family its time we got our spiritual life straight so that we can be good models for our children.

I don’t strictly believe in New Year’s Resolutions, but there’s a particular solidarity in looking towards the future with hope and determination to improve and do better. This year for us is to be the year of order, where the things that deserve priority get priority, and things that don’t are let slide. Happy New Year to all.

My “resolutions” are much the same as most of the people here.

    1) Spend more time with my family, and less with my computer. (A good friend of ours just lost her baby at 6 months pregnant yesterday and is spending today in the hospital giving birth to her son, and it made me realize that I take all the screaming and yelling, kicking, hitting, hugs and kisses for granted…Made me realize that they are growing up too fast, and NOTHING in my world should be more important than they are).
    2) Grow my photography business. I have a great grasp of the technical stuff and after a year of practicing, I am ready for some business to come my way!! 🙂
    3) Since my youngest is two, I think it *might* be time to lose the “baby weight”… LOL.

In 2010, I hope to finish more things I start! Professionally it is following up with staff development, working with classes and takIng care of the constant odds and ends projects that seem to multiply when ignored for a day or two. Personally it is taking time for PSE projects & pottery. : )

I really enjoy your tips, blogs and postings! Here’s to a great 2010!

OOOO wouldn’t this be great to ring in the New Year?! I have only one personal resolution and that is to get back on my treadmill! My professional is to get out and take more pictures, it doesn’t matter who’s watching. 🙂

I have two personal and two professional goals. Personal: Make better choices about food and exercise to become habit so I can get within a healthy weight range. Also, become more organized. Not organized = stress = cranky mommy and wife. My kids and hubby are more deserving of a happy me. Professional: Enter print judging to improve my photography. And start working towards becoming a Certified Professional Photographer. I may not become a CPP in 2010, but I want a solid foundation to get it in 2011.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve! (I hope I didn’t double post. Computer froze up first time I hit “reply”.)

My professional (and personal) resoloution is to block off time to be with family and not let this job seep into every aspect of my life! Gotta find the balance!
My personal resoloution is to learn to let go and to stop over analyzing everything in my life.

My resolutions include: launching a much needed new website, taking more control of my work hours by keeping my work more between 9-5 except of course for shooting, giving more in terms of charity and to my family and including more exercise. And most important more travel. Happy New Year and thanks Jodi for all of your generosity and hard work!

My New Year resolutions are: to improve myself to the best of my ability for my clients, and personal: Because we have a wedding in the planning stages for April of 2011,(my only daughter became engaged the day after Christmas, and we’re all so excited, especially since it was just a week after she graduated from nursing school!) I resolve to get rid if all this excess weight so that I am happy with MYSELF for the wedding, I’m not doing it to please anyone else, only MYSELF, because If I can’t be comfortable with myself, then I don’t feel I can be my best!

I couldn’t agree more with the “in a minute” or “just let me finish this photo”…. I’m so there…

And this year’s goals fall into both categoreis……epecially since I just weirdly & inexplicably lost my beautiful, vibrant 56 year old mommy (who is my absolute bestest girlfriend) over Xmas….. I am absolutely resolved to improve my workflow vs family time experience… life is ridiculously short- and I need to make sure that I continue to make the most of every single minute- get my new website finished and up (gonna have to look like I mean business if I’m gonna make this photo-thing a business) and to streamline my editing and condense my shooting days so that my family doesn’t feel second fiddle to my photo-passions.

Personally- we are as a whole family going to simply live better- eat better, eat less and move more…. and we will do it together. Another way to spend time together and improve our physical health. 🙂 Happy New Year everyone!

Personal resolution: Focus on the time that I do have with my children instead of the time that I miss out on while I’m at work. Professional resolution: Soak up every bit of information I can to better my photography and gain confidence with each picture I take.

To shoot 1x a week and to grow my editing skills by better understanding how to control the actions I use

To learn to wag more and bark less, all around but especially at my children. I don’t my son to think his needs always need to wait “5 more minutes”

Well something went wrong when I went to post so I’ll try again.

Personal – To be more present with my children
Professional – To keep my business organized so that I can fulfilly personal goal of being more present with my kids!

  307. December 31, 2009 at 10:02 pm — Reply

This first one is kind of a crossover between personal and professional resolutions. I want to set specific hours for my business. I work from the home and spend way too much family time doing photography and way too much photography time I spend only paying “half attention” because I’m taking care of the kids. So I want to be a better photographer and a better mom.

I also want to increase my number of shoots per month on the professional level. And on a personal note, I’d like to lose 30lbs. 🙂

Personally: I would like to strive to consciously think every day (discreet sticky notes or other reminders should be put to use) “How can I be a better wife and mommy?” and then of course do something to answer that question. Professionally: I would like to get my SmugMug account decked out/customized to further my marketing and therefore bring in more business.

Personal Resolution: Take the time to blog or somehow record the very fleeting moments of my children’s lives. I want them to be able to have a record of these precious early years.

Professional Resolution: Expand my photographic horizons and explore new genres in photography. It’s too easy to keep doing the same type of shots over and over.

Thank you for your work, and happy new year!!!!!

Professional: to take myself and my business more seriously and stop practically giving my work away. And, as in my personal goal, to learn it’s okay to say “no”!
