My Little “e”: Picture Share

As most of you know, I have twin daughters.  They have been my motivation and inspiration for my photography.  They love what I do for a living and are so proud of me.  It is a great feeling.

And while they wish I spent less time online, they do love when I involve them in my business.  They love picking winners for my blog contests, coming up with ideas for the photo sharing challenges, and love helping me edit in Photoshop.  They also enjoy that I can take pictures of their teachers and principle and turn them green and blue.  This may come in more handy when they get even older.

Since my twins are now 8, they are starting to like occasional time apart. So a few weeks ago, while Jenna was at a friend’s house, Ellie and I did a photo shoot. We had a blast. She tells me what poses and props she wants. At some point I will get new pictures of Jenna to share but for now… Ellie (AKA my “little e”).

And to proactively answer a few questions I might get asked…

I used my Canon 5D MKII with the Canon 85L for the closeups and Canon 16-35L for the full body shot. I used one Alien Bees light and a reflector.

The eyes were tack sharp with huge catchlights as the light had a Westcott softbox very close to her. I did not do much editing in Photoshop other than running through my big batch action and tweaking as needed.

And since it is good to critique your own work, my biggest complaint is the chair Ellie sat in.  It distracts from her.  Too late…  And I plan to re-do the skin tones on the bottom left photo as they are off a bit.

At first glance with the bottom right pic, her eyes are such big beautiful browns together with such a sweet smile/expression that the chair didn’t even exist until I went back and looked again. What a lovely little girl and image.

These are fabulous, Jodi. My favorites are the center and upper righthand photos. Can you darken or bokeh the chair in Photoshop?

Its lovely! I didn’t actually notice the chair until you pointed that out.
