Contest: Win The NITTY GRITTY Photography E-Book

Contest: Win The NITTY GRITTY Photography E-Book

Are you looking for advice on launching your photography business? Pascale Wowak, professional photographer and author of Getting Started in the Photography Business, has a new e-book available to photographers – The Nitty Gritty.  Two lucky photographers have a chance to win this new photographer’s guide. Also get $24 off if you use the code MCP at checkout by the end of August. If you win and already bought it, you will be refunded your purchase price.

Pascale guest wrote an article on the MCP Blog called “How to Photograph Pregnant Women.” Check this out for a sampling of her writing style.

Pascale describes her new work: This e-book covers everything you need to know in order to successfully launch and sustain your own photography business.  I delve into logo, branding, pricing, technical expertise, marketing, white balance, metering, histograms, finding the light, using reflectors and other tools of the trade, off camera flash, post processing, RAW editing, proper calibration of your monitor, using actions correctly, business forms, various FAQ’s, composition, preventing burn out, charity work, finding your style, copyright considerations, plenty of links to great articles and other useful websites and, basically, just a whole lot of SOUND advice.   I spent hours upon hours putting this all together and included actual step by step screen shot captures of my editing process with sample images to help illustrate the process for those of you who are very visual (like me).  It’s 50 pages chock-full of valuable advice, expertise, images and information.”

To enter the contest:

If you feel you could benefit from her electronic photography book, The Nitty Gritty, all you need to do is tell us why. Add your comment to the blog post, not on Facebook, and say why you want to win this book/what you would hope to learn from it.

For extra entries:

  • As always, if you “Like” me on Facebook, new “fans” only or “Follow” me on Twitter for the 1st time, you get an extra entry for each.
  • And if you spread the word on this contest, on your blog, Facebook, or Twitter, get extra comment entries for those as well. Just add a comment for each of the extra things you did. Good luck everyone!

Find out if you won:

The two winners will be picked by random drawing on Sunday the 22nd. Since I will be on vacation, I will not be blogging the winners.  Yep – I prep all my posts ahead when I am on vacation. Instead I will announce the winners on my Facebook Page wall.  So make sure you are a “liker” of it – check back then to see if you are one of two lucky winners. If you are, just email me to redeem your prize!

I think this would be an awesome resource. Most photographers are wonderfully creative but lack the business skills to make their business a success. This ebook seems to cover it all!

  16. August 19, 2010 at 8:21 am — Reply

I’ve been a photographer for nearly as long as I can remember. I developed my first picture in my Dad’s darkroom when I was six and was hooked. Now nearly 30 years later, I’ve finally decided to start taking portraits professionally and have been working toward it for several months, but am having trouble finding clients and have only managed to do a couple of shoots. I want to make photography a solid second income and for it to be my “retirement” plan. Something I can do for the rest of my life, but it’s not going well so far. This book could have the information I need to really succeed.

I’d love to win the e-book! I have not yet set up my business (I’ve been very careful to try to make sure I’m doing it right–getting my photog skills down well, making sure I price correctly and think of all business aspects, etc.) An e-book from a seasoned pro would really help me feel like I’m getting off on the right foot! Thanks for having the contest!

Having this book would be a wonderful resource!

I wouldn’t “like” to win this book, I “need” to win this book. I scour the internet for any piece of information on photogrpaphy, spend hours reading tutorials, research sites that will help me network and show my work….but then I can’t find the tutorials again or the site again…now I’ve taken to printing the useful ones up…but then I have to look through them all to find the information I need at the moment. To have all this information at my fingertips would be so helpful! Not to mention that I am just starting up a business. I’m not young….I have been a nurse for over 30 years and at last am doing what I want to do…but it’s hard and I need lots of guidance! So there you are…the reasons I “need” to win this book.

I’ve been a keen enthusiast for years shooting portraits, weddings and celebrations of family and friends on many occasions. This year I welcomed into the world my beautiful baby boy (who must be the most photographed baby ever!). And more than ever before I would like to make my photography not just a hobby but a business too. The main reason being that it would allow me to spend more time with my baby and watch him grow. I’d love to be able to share my passion with other mummies who are expecting their babies, who already have their babies and capture these beautiful images for them. I have the creative eye; all I need is the business skills. Winning this book would mean a lot to me and would help me on my way of becoming a full-time photographer.

I absolutely love Pascale’s work. It sounds sort of crazy, but I feel a deep connection with her photos, and there is an extra “something” in them that I feel are in my own. I’m an amateur, or “serious hobbyist” right now, thinking about moving towards professional photography, and I know that mentoring is what I need right now. I can’t imagine who else would be better to get it from than Pascale! I hope to learn trick of the trade, common mistakes folks make when moving from amateur to pro, and tips on marketing. I will be buying this book soon if I don’t win it, but winning it would be awesome!

  74. August 19, 2010 at 9:41 am — Reply

Photographers are so secretive that it’s almost impossible to plan to go into this business without making mistakes…because they won’t share what they’ve learned (or won’t share without charging you and arm and a leg). I fully recognize I don’t know a thing about the business and this would totally help me figure it out.

With so many aspiring photographers popping up everywhere around me in my small town, it is hard to give your business a big, HELLO HERE I AM push. I am a small photographer right now and it is not my full time job, but it is my goal to make it that way. When you are just starting out, and you have all the studing, research and reading, books and small advice from other small time photographer, its great, but to have advice from someone who has made there business bloom into something inspiring, you want to learn everything you can from them!!!! Thanks

Now she wants to get back into it, but is discouraged by all the photographer wannabes and their rock bottom prices and horrible imagery. I’d love this e-book because I think it might encourage her to get herself back on track. She has an incredible vision that she should share with others and maybe this will help her find her enthusiasm for her photography business again.

I just returned from shooting a 4-day destination wedding in Hollywood Beach, FL. FOR FREE! They paid all expenses…. BUT… How do I know when the time is right? When am I actually “qualified” to label myself as a professional photographer and make some extra money doing it? How do I do it? I just need some guts, I guess. My fledging little company, BigStar Livestock Images specializes in livestock photography and video production. My clients are ranches who are looking for innovative ways to market their cattle and livestock shows who hire me to cover the show. I just graduated college and decided to make a leap of faith and put my time (and savings) into BigStar to grow the company that just expanded into portraits. It seems like I’m learning everything the hard way (my degree was in animal science; I’m a self-taught photog) and it sounds like this great read would have some valuable advice and insight into managing a successful photography business.

I feel that I would greatly benefit from the assistance of the e-book. I recently inheretid a family photography business that was established in 1962 and in it’s hay day was the “it” studio. In the past decade as my Uncle reached his 90’s and eventually passed the studio became defunked. It is my mission to resurect a family tradition 4 generations and 50 years in the making. Please, I would love you to lend a hand!

I would absolutely love to win this book. Our photography business began in 2008, shortly after the death of my mother and adoption of our 4th child. We then began a rather abrupt move due to my husband’s job and our nation’s waning economy. With all of life’s curves that, for a while seemed aimed right at us, I feel I could certainly stand to improve my technical approach, post-processing array, and business approach. This book sounds right up my alley!! Thanks for the chance!
