Have you ever wanted to know how to photograph silhouettes? Do you love sunset pictures with your subjects silhouetted in the foreground?
I’m back! And as promised in an earlier guest blogger post I promised I’d dig up some of Jodi’s previously shared information on silhouettes. For me, summer is dwindling and I’m playing with some photos I took at the beach when I practiced silhouettes. You are not limited to a beach or a mountain top, a silhouette can be made in many ways. Get down low so the top of slope can give you a clear horizon and open your subject up to more sky, or place your subject in front of a bright area. Your subject can be a portion of landscape as well as people. Silhouettes can make for great maternity shot or a capture of a sweet interaction between loved ones. I hope this posts serves to get you thinking and gets you out trying to achieve some silhouettes of your own.
Since I’m not the expert I’ll refer you to some past posts with great information on how to create and edit a great silhouette photo with plenty of examples.

Now it is your turn, please upload your images (600px wide) of your favorite silhouette shots.
Thanks for reading and I hope you find this compilation of silhouette posts to be helpful and inspiring. Whatever season you are in, you can try for a beautiful silhouette. As always, feel free to comment if you would like to see a ‘flashback’ post on a certain topic or topics and I’ll dig up some great links for a future post. Jeanine

Thank you for all the great tutorials and information!
Here is my fav silhouette! I LOVE doing sunset silhouettes! I actually have many favorites, but this is one of the ones up high on the list!
I LOVE silhouettes! One of my favorites to take! These were great tutorials…I hadn’t tried taking silhouettes with a low f-stop yet like suggested in Part 1 and Part 2…so I think I might try that out tonight! Thanks again! This picture was just my most recent silhouette shot of my friend and her teenaged daughter.
Wedding Photo at a golf course in Colorado
This picture was kind of an accident when doing some self portraits for our holiday cards this year. I absolutely love it. I can’t wait to read up on how to intentionally do this next time 😉
