Our 1st MCP Project 12 theme is:
*** Resolution ***
The word resolution can mean many things. These theme “resolution” can involve the obvious New Year’s Resolution, as shown in my sample image or something far more complex. Look for definitions online to help you brainstorm your theme.
Here are a few of the many definitions:
- the act of resolving
- the measurement of detail by a sensor of a camera
- a judgement, verdict, or outcome
- determination
Photo disclaimer: I quickly took the photo above while preparing this post. We hope you will take time to be far more creative and artistic than a snapshot of a scale. We are excited to see how you interpret this theme.
A few words about MCP Project 12:
Project 12 gives photographers the opportunity to take more photos, be creative and have fun. Hobbyist and professional photographers can join us by capturing images based on our monthly themes and share with the MCP community.
At the beginning of each month, for the next 12 months, we will introduce a theme on our blog. You will have up to a month to brainstorm, develop your ideas, and take your photos. If you prefer a weekly challenge, like Project 52, challenge yourself to use the theme in multiple ways. You may upload up to four images per month.
To learn more details about Project 12, please visit the P12 Home Page.
Check back on the last day of January to see some featured images and get even more photo inspiration.
How to participate:
- Enter a comment on the P12 Home Page Here and let us know you will be joining in. You can participate every month or just a few.
- On each monthly Project 12 Blog post, this being the one for January, there will be a linky tool to submit your photo. Photos can be linked back to your Blog, Flickr or other photo hosting site.
- Please read the Guidelines before starting.
- You can see all photos on the blog post at the first of each month on the Linky Tools. Just click on the thumbnail images. You are welcome to leave a quick note or “like” for the photographer too, but unless they ask for critique, keep it simple.
- While you work on your images, you are welcome to post photos to the MCP Facebook Wall and ask for advice and feedback from MCP fans. Alternatively you can post to the comment section of this Blog post with your photo(s) and ask for ideas, critique, etc from participants. The most important way to grow your photography skills is to practice, practice, practice. Now is your chance.
<<< Learn how to add your images here. >>>
Your images will show in this grid once you upload them. See our test image, the scale, to see how it works and looks:

oooo…. thats a tuffy, good thing I have a month
This one is tough! Off to look for definitions:)
I cannot wait to start this
I’m in!
I like the challenge! I am in 🙂
I LOVE it….but unlike most, I truly believe we should strive everyday to resolve to BE more, to achieve more, to NOT necessarily DO more as sometimes we need to strive to DO LESS, to be our best….so, I want to make daily ones. There’s no time like the present to make goals and reach for them. Why wait for more time to pass to start, fail, start again? Today is as good as any to make a new resolution for today!! 🙂 So, I am sure my photos will be a little random for some, but important for me to see. I am a visual person…so this is GOOD! Thank you for todays challenge!!!
Can you participate in the challenge if you are not a dslr camera owner? I have a new Canon SX230 HS and I just purchased PSE 10. Am I too much of a newbie to participate? LOL I don’t have a blog or a website either!! E-gads!! : ) BTW, one of my resolutions is to learn how to use the camera and the software!Linda L
Linda…of course you can participate! That is one of the reasons for the P12, is to help you grow as a photographers, either amateur or pro. While we don’t recommend it because of privacy issues on Facebook, you can still use it to link back your photo. Just make sure that your P12 album is visible to everyone.Good luck!!!
Yes – you can. We welcome any images taken with intent to meet the theme and that use thought and creativity. iPhones are fine too.
Linda, Please join the fun! Project 12 is open to everyone! Young, old, experienced and not! We cannot wait to see your entries; let us know if you have any questions! Trish Project 12 Team Leader
Sounds fun and just what I need to get my mind and camera moving! I’m in!
I hope to participate! Thanks for the challenge!
COUNT ME IN!!
I’m in.
Count me in:)
I’m in!
Count me in!!!!!! Am loving the time frame of a month… I found that with the project 52, I would consider the theme for too long and leave myself short on time to actually shoot! Looking forward to this….. yay!
So glad to hear you are excited for this. It should be really fun!
I’m looking forward to Project 12. I started project 52 on fire last year but then found I just couldn’t keep up. This is more my pace 🙂
Me either – I did great for 8 weeks. Then… not so consistent…
I will be participating!
I’m in. I’ve done several assorted 365’s and was a bit burned out. I was looking for something a little less demanding. This may just be it!
This is awesome! Can’t wait to start this!
I think I’m going to try. Sounds fun.
Hoping to participate – looks much more manageable than the more frequent ones, so I like that.I see the grid of submitted photos above, will you be able to scroll through them or will they all open individual links? I’d like to be able to scroll through them at a good size to have a look at the ideas and captures. Thanks
I will be participating! I am really excited to challenge myself!
Sounds fun! I’m in!
I’m in! This should be fun!
I can’t wait to begin. I do have one question, do I need a blog and how do I get started with a blog, or can I just download my images from my comp. files?
you can host at a place like flickr. Or on a blog. See wordpress and blogger.
Go to flickr and sign up for a Free account. Then upload from your home computer to flickr. Having your photo on flickr, then gives EACH of your photos each owns URL address or link to share 🙂 Flickr is easy to learn to use 🙂
I am definitely getting in on this project. Why shouldn’t i add more to my plate? lol
I’m in! I tried the Project last year but never managed to upload any photos. I did follow along and learned a lot but I am looking forward to learning even more this year by participating! Thanks for putting all this together! Rachel
Rachel,I hope that you’ll be uploading some photos this year! You are right that this is a great way to improve your skills!
cant wait to brainstorm
How fun! I do a 365 project and love the idea of this as it gives a theme to work on- cant wait to see what everyone comes up with
I’m in! Sounds exciting!
I’m in. Excited to participate, meet others, learn and grow.
I hate relolutions because it stresses me out if I don’t keep them! This is a great challenge for me!
Once a month is a perfect pace…gives you more time to really think and brainstorm for the perfect shot of what you want to say.
Very excited to think on this one and get creative
I love projects! Can’t wait to start brainstorming, submit and see what everyone else comes up with 🙂
How do you add your Like vote on an image. Cheers
Kaylene, “liking” an image is easy! Simply click on the word “like” under each photo!Trish Project 12 Team Leader
I’m in! As long as I remember!

I’m in!
I’m in. Thanks for the challenge!!
Looking forward to it!
I’m excited about developing new skills. Great time to begin.
Okay, so I linked my photo/ collage incorrectly the first time I put it on (to my blog, but not he original post), but I have NO idea how to delete it. So I went ahead and added the pic again. If you would like to delete the original (or tell me how to delete it) please do, it’s #84. Thanks, and sorry! :~)
No worries Heather! We’ve got it covered!
awesome projest! i’m in!
What a great idea, a monthly challenge sounds just perfect!!!
Great idea!
This is a great way to start 2012!
I am a beginning photographer and would love to participate. There is so much for me to learn.
Gonna give it a try 🙂
Can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with.
Being a new to photography I need structure. MCP Project 12 should do the trick. Stay focused – stay focused – practice – practice – practice! Looking forward to having fun with my camera.
I’m a complete newbie. This is a challenge for me. I’m in!
I’m joining ! So excited about this…….
I’m in!! I may not be able to keep up with it but am thankful it’s only monthly so I have a shot at it 🙂
This is a great challenge! Count me in.
I am finding it more difficult/time consuming to look at other people’s pictures to give feedback. Since we are not using Flicker as a group for the contest, I have to enter and exit different people’s web site, block, or flicker photostream to see the picture. This takes much more time to do. It was more straight forward and practical during the MCP 52 project. What are your thoughts on this new way of organizing the contest? I don’t mean to be critical, just wanted to give feedback as a member of the contest. I’m not as likely to give feedback in this kind of process. Live the challenge of the contest though. It holds me accountable to be creative with my photography.
We welcome feedback. I am sorry you are not finding it as easy. For those hosting on flickr – you would be able to click on their image and it takes you to flickr. We had many last year who did not have or want flickr so they could not participate. This opened up more options for all to join in.Also, flickr has strict guidelines. You cannot link to your website or blog if you sell a product or service. So our flickr group was very disconnected from our site/blog. We wanted to bridge those connections so we can do some future giveaways and other fun stuff related to MCP Project 12.Does that make sense? If you have ideas centered around this, We welcome them. Thanks – Jodi
I very much agree with you, Terry. However, I do understand Jodi’s point of view; I’m sure it makes more sense business-wise. I am finding it frustrating to try to view photos from all over and needing to move in and out of websites. I sure appreciate anyone that hosts something like this. . .it has to be time-consuming. I will keep checking back to view photos as I can, but realistically won’t be able to view and comment as before. I realize what’s harder for me may be easier for others, so that’s great! You can’t please them all, and just the effort put forth to do this is to be highly commended. Keep up the great work, Jodi. You are a true asset to the photography community.
Hi, my entry is #135, I think I did something *goofy* when I approved the crop? The photo is showing as a red ex on this blog. Do I need to re-do it? Sorry for the hassle.
Jana, I will take a look at it! Trish Project 12 Team Leader
Hi! I am excited about this project and it’s a great way to improve my photography skills! My husband got me a great new camera for Christmas and I am so excited to develop my skills!
One picture every month should be manageable. At least, I will give it a try 🙂
I’m up for it.
So excited to be joining this year! Didn’t have time last year due to working on launching my photography business. Now that things are more settled looking forward to the challenge and being a part of MCP Project 12.

I am a late for this month but very interested in doing this!!! Thanks so much
As I posted “I’m in” , I’m not! 🙁 I have read everything for 2 hours…I tried to copy & paste my flickr link of my post photo as well as my blog (just the photo link on my blog)… and I keep getting in RED: “A valid internet address is required.” WHAT am I doing wrong????
Debroah, I am sorry you are having difficulty. You can email me your links to [email protected] and I can try to run through the process. Don’t give up! We want to see your image!Trish Project 12 Team Leader
I will be participating monthly! =)
I am sorry the site and blog has been down. I hope everyone can start adding their photos again today. Thanks for participating.Jodi
I am going to give this a try.. Hope I do well.
I think I’m going to do this?
I’d like to participate in MCP-12
Going to give it a try! Took a while to figure out how to upload the photo, as I do not blog, and am new to this! But it is up, so I am diving in,…
Welcome to the project! I hope you enjoy it, and we look forward to seeing your photographs.Melinda Green HarveyMCP Project 12 Team Leader
In attempting to add my photo, there was a repeated error… I’m so sorry for the duplicate entries, I could not determine how to remove those, my bad 🙁
I’m in!
Will the picture show up in the grid right away after it is uploaded, or is there a delay? I think I loaded my image but I’m not seeing it. I didn’t want to try again and end of loading a duplicate if it’s just a matter of waiting. Thanks!
Took a little while, but I see it now. Thanks!
I am glad it worked. It does seem like it takes a minute or two to show up after the upload! Trish
Will give it a try, 3 other projects as well but I want to stretch myself because I was very lazy last year.
maybe I will do this
I’d like to encourage you to participate! It’s easy to upload your images, and it’s a good way to work on your photography skills!Melinda Green HarveyMCP Project 12 Team Leader
Never joined in on things like this, but it’s a great way to make our minds think! Looking forward to joining in!

In… First time for anything like this – Bravery and Confidence to the list of resolutions too I suppose.
OK here we go, This is my first time doing something like this I hope to gain some experience and insight through the year with this project 🙂
It looks like several photos that were entered during the month are missing, including mine. Is there a time period for them to display or did something happen that removed them?
Never mind. I found the other photos. LOL
My apologies for the double entry. My thumbnail didn’t load properly the first time. 🙂
So sorry – I mistakenly put three copies of my picture. It was giving me error messages – and I didn’t know it was actually adding it each time. Won’t happen again 🙂
No worries Jayne! We’ve got you covered!Trish HarwickProject 12 Team Leader
I’m in 🙂
I would like to give it a go!
I went through the submission process and nothing seems to be showing up!! :/
I am sorry you are having difficulty! I believe I did see a photo submitted by you though. It will take a few minutes for the photo to show up on the Linky “roll” here on the blog after you submit it. Let me know if you need additional help. Trish
I am having touble submitting a photo. Nothing happens when I click on either of the 3 links 🙁 Do I have to have a website?

#426 and #427 I am finally posting my images on the very last day of the month. I happy to be a part of MCP Project 12 I am looking forward to greatly improving my photography skills with this project. 426 image of my daughter for my resolution to smile and laugh more, and 427 Resolution to wear my favorite pink shoes more.
Yikes…..I didn’t get mine posted in time but I will next month. My resolution is to learn my camera’s manual modes so that I DON’T have to pack my book with me when I want to change my settings. This month I learned to “bracket” so I can do a little HDR.
Here’s one:
