Canon introduced three new PowerShot cameras and the brand new IXUS 140 in order to suit the needs of all consumer types.

After unveiling the PowerShot N point-and-shoot camera, Canon took its time to reveal four new compact cameras called IXUS 140, PowerShot A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400. The Canon IXUS 140 will be called ELPH 130 IS in the United States and Canada, while the A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400 will all be a part of the PowerShot series.

Similarities and differences

All cameras will be equipped with a 16-megapixel CCD sensor and DIGIC 4 processor in order to provide the best shots possible in various conditions. The IXUS 140 and PowerShot A3500 IS feature Canon’s Intelligent IS technology, while the PowerShot A2600 and A1400 only feature Digital IS mode support.

Being top of the range, the former two cameras feature WiFi and GPS support via mobile devices, while the latter two do not have this option. The top three compact cameras have a 3-inch PureColor II G LCD screen, while the lower-end A1400 has a 2.7-inch LCD with an optical viewfinder.

In addition, all four cameras have a 28mm wide-angle lens with 5x optical zoom and 10x ZoomPlus, exception making the IXUS 140 which has an improved 8x zoom lens. The similarities continue with the ability to record HD-ready movies at 720p resolution, 32 scenes in Smart Auto, Eco mode, Face detection and live view control.

Social networking sharing

Both the new PowerShot A3500 IS and IXUS 140 come with Canon Camera Window app support, which is available on iOS and Android devices. This will allow photographers to sync photos and videos on their mobile devices in order to upload them on Facebook or YouTube.

The GPS via mobile function provides geo-tagging data, while the Canon iMAGE Gateway brings up to 10GB of storage space to store photos and videos in the cloud as well as to wirelessly print the users’ favorite shots.

Creative Filters is a special feature which gives photographers the ability to make photos look more artistic before sharing them on social networking websites.

Canon announced that the IXUS 140, PowerShot A1600 and A1400 will become available towards the end of February for £159, £109, respectively £199, while the PowerShot A3500 IS is scheduled for an early March release date at a small price of £129.
