According to Sigma, the 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM super-telephoto zoom lens is its first Sports line lens that is trans-focal and delivers a constant high aperture at the same time. Moreover, its firmware is user-customizable via the USB Dock.

The constant f/2.8 aperture translates into faster shutter speeds, thus better capturing of fast moving objects, at any focal length. Sigma built the new lens to deliver optical performance and to be adaptive. The quick aperture will be available throughout the zoom range, so sports photographers will definitely appreciate this optic.

Besides the 120-300mm focal length, it also proclaims the possibility to set it up via the software provided. It takes use of the “USB DOCK” technology. By using a special software (Sigma Optimization Pro), the photographer is able to alter the lens’s firmware settings for better customization. This means that Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM can be adapted to the photographer’s needs.

The Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM lens is the first model of the company’s new Sports line-up.

The lens incorporates two FLD (“F”Low Dispersion) glass elements that deliver performances equal to fluorite. Another SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element compensates for possible color aberration. It has internal zooming and focusing, thus the lens never changes its size and front lens element does not rotate. Any type of filter can be attached to it, since the front part of the lens is fixed.

Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM is built to be durable, providing dust-proof and splash proof parts wherever there are joints, such as the mount attachment, manual ring, zoom ring, or the switches.

Thanks to its HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) integration, the lens delivers high speed, quiet and precise AF (Auto Focus). Other great specifications are its nine blades rounded-diaphragm or the brass made bayonet mount.

This super-telephoto zoom lens bears the DG designation, which means that it can cover full-frame image sensors. Nevertheless, it will be compatible with some APS-C DSLRs and will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 180-450mm.

Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM is available at the pre-order price of $3,599 for Canon, Sigma, and Nikon DSLR cameras.
