Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III VC super zoom lens announced

Tamron has introduced the first Micro Four Thirds super zoom lens in the company’s history, which is dated back to 1950.

Tamron announced the company’s first super zoom lens aimed at Micro Four Thirds camera owners. This is only the third high-power zoom lens for mirrorless cameras, after the Olympus 14-150mm and Panasonic 14-140mm HD lenses.

The Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III VC lens offers a focal length between 28 to 300mm for the full frame 35mm format. The high-power zoom lens was introduced at the CP+ 2013 digital imaging show.

Its spec sheet includes a low dispersion glass element and two aspherical elements in combination with a hybrid aspherical element. Tamron claims that this Micro Four Thirds lens can deliver high quality photos, as it can compensate chromatic aberrations in a proper way.

Tamron adds that a built-in stepping motor provides quiet and fast autofocusing, while the Vibration Compensation technology reduces blur to create sharper photos. The so-called VC mechanism is now compatible with a 52mm filter, fact that allows mirrorless camera owners to take full advantage of the lens’ capabilities.

The company noted that the aforementioned image stabilization technology should be turned off if a mirrorless camera already features such mechanism. Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III VC super zoom lens’ construction consists of 17 elements in 13 groups. Seven circular diaphragm blades compile a circular diaphragm, which is said to be helpful when trying to obtain background blur effects.

The total weight of the lens is 280 grams / 9.9 ounces, while the entire length stands at 85.24mm / 3.4 inches.

The company has not announced the release date of its first super zoom lens for mirrorless camera, nor its price. The lens will be available in a black and silver metal finish. Tamron confirmed that the price is yet to be determined, however, an announcement should be made in the coming weeks.
