“Try Before You Buy” brings you a Panasonic Lumix GH3 for 48 hours
Panasonic has decided to promote its “most advanced camera system” with an uncommon campaign. The so-called “Try Before You Buy” service will allow users to borrow the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 for 48 hours. However, at the end of the trial period, customers will not be forced to purchase the mirrorless camera.
Pentax Q10 firmware update 1.01 now available for download
Pentax has decided to give Q10 users a special treat on Valentine’s Day, by releasing the 1.01 firmware update for the mirrorless camera. Although it is just a minor update, it will improve the performance of the Pentax Q10 compact system camera, allowing the users to focus faster when taking photos.
Nikon gives final call for entries in the Nikon Photo Contest
Nikon has been holding a photo competition since 1969. The competition has gained a lot of popularity throughout the years. The company is holding a contest this year and, as entries can be submitted until February 28th, 2013, is announcing a final call for entries in the 2012-2013 edition of the Nikon Photo Contest.
Photographer Paul Hansen, winner of 56th World Press Photo contest
The 56th World Press Photo contest named its winners on 15 February. The grand title of World Press Photo of the Year was won by Swedish photographer Paul Hansen, who entered the competition with an image depicting a group of men carrying the bodies of two children and their father to their funeral, in Gaza City.
SeaViewer to supply HD cameras for F5 Robotics’ DiveBot underwater ROV
F5 Robotics has started an IndieGogo project called DiveBot. It consists of a very cheap remotely operated vehicle which can record videos under 1,000 feet of water. The ROV’s manufacturer has announced a partnership with SeaViewer, which will supply HD cameras for the underwater camcorder.
Nikon D7100 to be announced during Thai event next week?
In 2012, Nikon upgraded most of camera series, from both DSLR and mirrorless shooter types. In 2013, the company needs to provide a replacement for the D7000, in order to revive its business. February 21st may be “D-Day”, as the company sent invitations to an event in Thailand, where it may reveal a new DX camera and lens.

Canon C300 firmware update 1.0.8.1.00 available for download now
Canon is actively working on improving its cameras. The Japanese manufacturer has released a firmware update for its C300 camcorder. Firmware version 1.0.8.1.00 can be downloaded now by Mac OS X and Windows PC users, in order to fix several issues found in the C300 / C300PL EOS cinema camera.
Adobe releases the source code for the 1990 version of Photoshop
Good news for Photoshop fans: The Computer History Museum, together with Adobe, makes Photoshop available for download, for free and completely legal, for everyone to enjoy. The only thing is, it’s only available for the 1990 version, the first of the many Photoshop versions released.
Instagram asks judge to dismiss ToS class action lawsuit
Right before the end of 2012, Instagram was hit with a class action lawsuit over Terms of Service changes. A concerned user filed the lawsuit because she believed that Instagram gained rights over her photos. Almost two months later, the company asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit because it was filed before the changes went into effect.
Olympus denies that it is reducing DSLR investments
A report recently published by Japanese media organizations said that Olympus will be forced to significantly reduce DSLR investments. The company redirect all its attention towards the mirrorless camera segment. However, Olympus issued an official statement saying that the reports are false.
Nikon and Warner Music Group announce SXSW partnership
This year’s South by Southwest film and music festival just got a little more appealing to photographers in the world, as Nikon and the Warner Music Group have announced a partnership, which specifies that “The Warner Sound” will be captured by the Nikon D4 DSLR cameras during the SXSW 2013 edition.
No more blurry iPhone photos, thanks to Apple’s latest patent
Apple has developed a technology that forces the iPhone camera to take photos as soon as the user launches the Camera application and store them in a buffer. When the user touches the display to take a photo, the software will automatically select the least blurry photo from the shots stored in the buffer. The technique is described in a patent filed in October 2012.

Sony RX10 studied as a “solution” between the RX1 and RX100
Sony is seriously investigating the possibility of bridging the gap between the cheaper RX100 and the more expensive RX1. In an interview with Spanish website, DSLR Magazine, the company’s Senior Manager of Product Design confirmed that Sony is studying the market, in order to see “what could be the best solution for a compact camera”.
