Panasonic Lumix GH3 firmware update 1.1 now available for download

Panasonic has released a firmware update for the Lumix DMC-GH3 camera and three of its lenses, in order to improve their autofocus speed.

Panasonic promised that it would release an update for its Lumix GH3 camera several weeks ago. That day has come as owners of the mirrorless camera can download the new firmware now, in order to improve the performance of the shooter.

Owners of the Panasonic Lumix GH3 will notice several changes when compared to the previous version. The Japanese corporation took the tally of modifications up to seven and the first one is to allow users to connect their camera to a WiFi router by entering the NetBIOS name of a Mac computer.

The next change, which should improve the Micro Four Thirds system, consists of allowing film makers to record MP4 videos at full HD resolution at 60P for NTSC and 50P for PAL.

Moreover, the Panasonic Lumix GH3’s display no longer remains on while outputting videos through HDMI cable to view content on HDTVs and monitors. Previously, a bug caused the live view to remain on, even though it was set to off.

Another bug, which caused the shooter not to augment the image when using Pinpoint AF with Shutter AF set to off, has been fixed.

Micro Four Thirds camera owners will also have to upgrade their lenses

Panasonic has also increased the autofocus speed of the camera, when being used in combination with the following lenses: H-FS45150, H-PS14042, and H-PS45175.

Separate files must be downloaded to upgrade the firmware of the Lumix G Vario 45-150mm F4.0-5.6 ASPH,  Lumix G X Vario  PZ 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH, and Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm F4.0-5.6 ASPH lenses.

The final enhancement refers to signal processing during movie playback. Panasonic says that, in this case, the performance has been significantly improved.
