Environmental Photographer of the Year 2013 award goes to Michele Palazzi

Michele Palazzi is the Environmental Photographer of the Year 2013, according to the CIWEM team of judges. The photographer won the award thanks to an amazing picture of two children caught in a sandstorm.

The Italian lensman captured the image in the Gobi desert and he entitled it “Gone with the Dust #02”. The kids were playing in the Mongolian desert when powerful winds struck them. However, they were clever enough to cover their faces, while a camel was searching for food in the distance.

The Rome-based photographer will receive £5,000 for his accomplishment. Beside winning a prestigious competition, the £5,000 amount should be enough to allow the lensman to continue taking photos.

Bennett is a 17-year-old photographer who has submitted a pair of photos, called “Car Damaged” and “Travelling Through”. They were enough to grant her the prestigious award and we wish her the best of luck in the future.

Jonathan Goldberg wins Environmental Video of the Year 2013 category

Last but not least award, has been given to Jonathan Goldberg. He is the winner of the Environmental Video of the Year 2013 prize, thanks to an inspiring short film entitled “Shaking the Tree”. It tells the story of volunteer harvesting fruits each year.

Michael and his friends are harvesting tons of pears and apples. Although they cannot eat all of them, they are doing creative things with them, which was welcomed by the local community. This short movie also brought £1,000 to cinematographer Jonathan Goldberg.

Next year, CIWEM will bring back the Environmental Photographer of the Year contest and many lensmen will return with even better pictures and videos.
