Canon 7D Mark II is rumored to feature a 21-megapixel APS-C image sensor. However, the camera’s launch date may have to be delayed due to issues with the sensor’s mass-production.

Canon 7D Mark II unofficially “confirmed” to have a 21-megapixel image sensor

The focus is on the Canon 7D Mark II, which is rumored to be powered by a 21-megapixel APS-C sensor. The camera is said to be almost ready, but its launch is delayed by a problem with the sensor’s mass-production.

According to the rumor mill, the company does not have enough sensor units in order to meet consumer demand. It appears that Canon wants to release the DSLR on the market 30 days after its official announcement, but shortages are forcing the Japanese manufacturer to delay the launch.

Canon 70D may skip past Rebel SL1’s sensor, in order to run on the same 21MP APS-C sensor

Additionally, the source said that the Canon 70D might feature the same 21-megapixel sensor as the 7D Mark II. However, the issue is the aforementioned lack of 21MP sensor units.

The company is testing more versions of both cameras. The EOS 70D has been rumored to sport an 18-megapixel sensor, just like the Canon Rebel SL1 / EOS 100D. Still, the company appears to be undecided over this matter and it may take a while until the 70D makes a public appearance.

Previously, it has been said that the Canon 70D will be unveiled during an event on April 23. The DSLR will feature a 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen, WiFi, GPS, and DIGIC 5 processing engine. It should become available on the market for a price of $1,199 by the end of May.

However, it remains to be seen whether Canon changed its mind over the image sensor or not.

Canon 7D Mark II specs have been leaked before

On the other hand, more information about the Canon 7D Mark II will be revealed soon, but the company’s fans should expect the camera to pack a 21MP APS-C sensor, as it is not the first time we have heard this megapixel count.

The EOS 7D Mark II is also rumored to feature a 3.2-inch display, GPS, WiFi, 19-point autofocus system, 100-25,600 ISO range (expandable up to 102,400), 100% optical viewfinder, and a built-in grip.
