Panasonic has released a firmware update for eight cameras in the Lumix series, in order to improve GPS and geo-tagging performance.
Photographers using Panasonic Lumix cameras appear to have been disappointed by the GPS performance provided by their shooters. The Japanese corporation worked hard to distribute firmware update 1.1 for no less than eight devices with almost identical release notes.
Panasonic Lumix FT5, TZ41, TZ40, ZS30, and TS5 are all upgradeable to firmware update 1.1
It appears that five of the company’s cameras were not doing a good job in recording GPS coordinates, therefore the latest firmware update will make these cameras better at preserving track logs. As a result, the following cameras have been affected: Lumix DMC-FT5, Lumix DMC-TZ41, Lumix DMC-TZ40, Lumix DMC-ZS30, and Lumix DMC-TS5.
It is worth mentioning that the release notes say that “more” changes have been made to the cameras. Sadly, Panasonic did not provide further details, which is a bit unfortunate as photographers would have definitely wanted to see what else is new in firmware update 1.1.
Panasonic Lumix ZS27, ZS30GK, and TZ37 will allow photographers to sort photos by geo-tagging data
Moreover, firmware version 1.1 is improving image filtering in Playback mode. This means that photographers will be able to sort their photos based on the geo-tagging data, which will be very helpful if one decides to check out the imagery taken in a specific place.
This change is available only for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS27, Lumix DMC-ZS30GK, and Lumix TZ37 compact cameras. Beside the aforementioned change, users have not received any other improvements compared to the previous version.
