Codeunited has just released the open-source app Helmut, which takes just a couple of seconds to scan a film frame to your smartphone. It has already won first prize in an international image app development contest, named Photo Hack Day.

New Kodak mirrorless camera caught in action at P&E Show 2013

Kodak is on the verge of emerging out of bankruptcy. CEO Antonio Perez said that the digital imaging giant will finally get back in business sometime in mid-2013. Until then, the company has been present at the P&E Show 2013 in China, where it displayed a new mirrorless camera and the PixPro S1 Micro Four Thirds system.

Micro Four Thirds adopters are in for a treat as both Olympus and Panasonic are working on several new cameras. The former will launch the E-P5 and E-PL6 sometime in May, while the latter will please its fans earlier than expected, as the LF1 and G6 shooters should be revealed by the end of April, along with a new lens.

Canon has posted a press release in order to announce that it has been the top vendor of digital cameras with interchangeable lenses in the world since 2003. It is the 10th consecutive year the company has sold more interchangeable-lens cameras than any other competitor, said Canon, thanks to its EOS series of shooters.

Fujifilm is looking to revive its digital camera sales. According to the rumor mill, several new devices will be introduced by the Japan-based manufacturer throughout 2013. Both the G6 and LF1 cameras will feature good specs at attractive price points.
