Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 lens announced for Sony E-mount and others

After announcing a 16mm f/2 lens for APS-C sensor cameras through its Asian counterpart, Rokinon is back with a surprise for US photographers which consists of a 300mm f/6.3 lens for Sony E-mount.

The Samyang 16mm f/2 ED AS UMC CS lens has been officially announced on Facebook just a few hours ago. Samyang, aka Rokinon in the United States, has a habit of introducing new products using the world’s most popular social networking service because it seems to be easier to stay in touch with photographers and fans this way.

The whole idea of launching products through Facebook appears to be working for the company, as Rokinon has just announced another lens on its official page of the social network.

It is aimed at Sony NEX cameras with E-mount and it consists of the Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 lens. The company says that it has primarily been designed for E-mount, but it should be released with support for all mirrorless cameras from Olympus, Fujifilm, and Canon (with their respective mounts).

The Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 lens has managed to attract quite a few admirers, since it will be compatible with multiple mounts, including PEN, X-series, and EOS M.

The company has not announced a target market. However, the lens should be aimed at wildlife and sports photographers, who have chosen to use mirrorless cameras instead of DSLRs.

Release date and price information announced

Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 lens release date is scheduled for early July. The product will be released in two colors, that is Silver and Black. Both versions will feature a red circle on them, adding a little bit of contrast and making the lens more pleasing to the eye.

The Rokinon 300mm f/6.3 lens price will be $299. However, the manufacturer has not announced any retailers, though it is very unlikely that the South Korean company will be changing its regular partners. Anyway, more details should be revealed soon so stay tuned.
