Canon SX280 HS firmware update 1.0.2.0 released for download

Canon has released a firmware update for the PowerShot SX280 HS, the first camera in the world powered by the brand new DIGIC 6 image processor.

The Canon PowerShot SX280 HS has been introduced in the latter part of March 2013. It has become the world’s first camera with a DIGIC 6 processing engine, which should deliver faster autofocus speed and the ability to capture more frames per second in continuous shooting mode.

Canon SX280 HS firmware update 1.0.2.0 increases the duration of video capturing by 20% when photographers are using optical zoom.

Canon PowerShot SX280 HS camera gets new firmware update shortly after its launch

Canon’s compact camera is now upgradeable to a new firmware, which has reached version 1.0.2.0. This means that it should not make a huge difference for the users, as it is only a minor update.

Still any update is better than no updates at all, especially when it is fixing some bugs that might have been annoying photographers ever since a product’s launch.

Canon SX280 HS firmware update 1.0.2.0 available for download now with two changes

Anyway, the Canon PowerShot SX280 HS firmware update 1.0.2.0 changelog includes two changes over the previous version.

The first change refers to an increase in movie recording duration by up to 20%, when using optical zoom. The reason behind this decision is based on the fact that the power consumption is reduced when optical zoom is in place.

The second change is a bug fix. Previously, the camera was displaying a battery level notice when capturing movies even though there was enough power in the battery.

Download links available at the product’s support page

Canon has also posted the download links, which can be found at the company’s official website. The files can be downloaded by users of all computer operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

In the meantime, the Canon PowerShot SX280 HS camera is available for sale at Amazon for the price of $260.15.

The compact camera features GPS, WiFi, USB 2.0 port, NB-6L rechargeable Li-Ion battery, high-speed burst mode of 14fps, 12.1-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, 25-500mm lens, 1920 x 1080p video recording, and built-in optical image stabilization technology.
