A couple of new Canon wide-angle lenses are rumored to be introduced by the end of 2013, in order to complete the company’s optical lineup up to the 560mm focal length.

Canon is already the biggest lens maker ever, as the company has sold more than 90 million units since its beginnings. This amount represents 10 million more than Nikon’s 80 million units.

Despite having a huge portfolio, Canon is not stopping here. We have heard through the grapevine that the Japan-based manufacturer is working on at least a couple of lenses, that will be announced by the end of 2013.

Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II wide-angle zoom lens is rumored to be replaced by the EF 16-50mm f/4L IS, just like the 17-40mm f/4L model. The company might also announce a 14-24mm f/2.8L lens this year.

It appears that the pair will consist of new Canon wide-angle lenses and one of them will replace two existing optics: the 16-35mm f/2.8L II and 17-40mm f/4L.

The aforementioned two products will be substituted by the EF 16-50mm f/4L IS, a very capable model, which will be able to maintain its maximum aperture throughout the zoom range.

It is worth noting that sources say that this is not the final configuration, meaning that the manufacturer is testing more versions and it might tweak a few things here and there.

The second lens will be a lot more interesting for people who are really serious about landscape photography. It appears that Canon is aiming to release an EF 14-24mm f/2.8L lens, which will also keep its maximum aperture through the whole focal length range.

This feature will make it very expensive, but the 14-24mm will complete the company’s lineup of zoom lenses between 14 and 560mm.

With the launch of this accessory, Canon will be able to rest for a while, as it will cover all types of photography.

New Canon wide-angle lenses coming in late 2013 or early 2014

Gossip talks say that the two lenses will be launched in the timeframe located between the next six and eight months, though a late 2013 announcement is more likely.

Even if they do not show up this year, then the new Canon wide-angle lenses will become available in early 2014.
