Canon EOS M firmware update 2.0.2 has become available for download today, just like the Japanese company has recently predicted.
The Canon EOS M mirrorless camera has been rumored to receive a firmware update this summer, in order to improve a few aspects of the shooter. Shortly after the rumors, the Japan-based company has confirmed that its MILC will receive a firmware update soon. Well, the upgrade has become official along with the new EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens.
Canon EOS M firmware update 2.0.2 available for download now, as initially planned
Shortly after these announcements, Canon’s Japanese website has confirmed that the EOS M will get its firmware update on June 27. This statement has become true earlier today, when mirrorless camera users have received the green light to download the new update.
The Canon EOS M firmware update 2.0.2 does not provide too many fixes, but it does incorporate a faster autofocus speed. According to the Japanese company, photographers will be able to achieve a 2.3 times faster One-Shot AF speed.
Canon EOS M autofocus speed is definitely a lot faster than before
The quickness of the autofocus technology has been demonstrated by one of the firmware’s testers, who has uploaded several videos on YouTube.
One does not have to be an expert to notice the huge difference between the two firmware versions. Current Canon EOS M users will be very happy because the Japanese corporation has finally done something about the AF speed, since this has been the device’s biggest drawback since becoming available.
The firmware version 2.0.2 also provides support for the new EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and several corrections to the Chinese, Korean, and Hungarian language menus.
Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens has not been released, but it is coming soon
Some may say that the changelog of update is rather scarce, but one reason for that may be a replacement for the camera. The rumor mill is suggesting that an EOS M replacement is coming this summer, but this remains to be determined.
Meanwhile, the current Canon EOS M is available for purchase with the EF-M 22mm lens kit at Amazon and Adorama for a price of $444. Unfortunately, the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens is not available on the market, yet.
The 2.0.2 firmware can be download the company’s EOS M product page.
