Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH lens officially unveiled

Panasonic has revealed a new version of one of its most popular lenses ever, the Lumix G 20mm f/1.7, which is aimed at Micro Four Thirds cameras.

The Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH lens has been expected to make an official appearance over the past days, as the Japanese manufacturer has recently discontinued the older version, despite the fact that the product is still selling well at major retailers.

Silver version of the new Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH lens is identical to the black one. Both editions provide a 40mm focal length equivalent in 35mm format.

The decision to discontinue the lens has come as a surprise due to the fact that companies do not usually stop making products which continue to move nicely on the market. However, the judgment became clear soon after that and consumers can rest assured as a new 20mm f/1.7 glass has been revealed.

Panasonic has posted an update on its website to reveal the refreshed fixed focal length lens Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH. It is aimed at Micro Four Thirds cameras capable of supporting interchangeable lenses, without disrupting the aspect of the shooters.

The new glass is very smooth, as it comes packed in a metallic design with both black and silver finishes. The manufacturer is aware that photographers appreciate customization, so it has given them two options when making their purchase.

Silver and black may look different, but the lens’ internal hardware is identical. There is no optical image stabilization technology in this lens, which features seven circular diaphragm blades. Additionally, there are seven elements grouped in five with a pair of aspherical elements.

Micro Four Thirds camera owners will be able to buy this lens in late July

Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH lens will provide a 35mm format equivalent of 40mm, thus making this glass the perfect companion for portrait photography.

Autofocus is supported, while the minimum focusing distance stands at 7.87-inches or 20 centimeters. The lens weighs merely 0.19 lbs and measures 63mm in diameter and 26mm in length.

Panasonic has scheduled the new Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH for a July 29 release date and a price of £349, while US availability will be announced shortly.
