Ricoh has unveiled the new Blue and White Pentax K-01, as the mirrorless camera has been resurrected from the dead.

Pentax K-01 first became official in the early parts of 2012. However, it did not last too long on the market, as it has recently been discontinued. Ricoh, the company which has purchased Pentax a couple of years ago, has decided to bring it back on the market with a new color variation: Blue and White.

Pentax K-01 re-announced in Blue and White color variation

The new edition has the same specs as the original version, but it will allow future customers to differentiate themselves from previous ones. The Blue and White Pentax K-01 will become available in Japan by the end of this month or on the 25th to be more exact.

Pentax K-01 features a 16.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor, ISO sensitivity between 100 and 12800 (which can be expanded up to 25600), sensor-shift image stabilization technology, RAW support, autofocus assist light, and 81 AF points.

The mirrorless shooter also features a 3-inch 921K-dot LCD screen with Live View support, shutter speed between 1/4000th of a second and 30 seconds, built-in flash, continuous shooting mode of up to 6 frames per second, and 1920 x 1080 video recording at 30fps.

Blue and White Pentax K-01 is compatible with K-mount lenses

Photos will be stored on a SD / SDHC / SDXC card and users will be able to transfer the multimedia content using a USB cable or even watch it on an HDTV, courtesy of an HDMI-out port.

The manufacturer will be selling the device together with a 40mm f/2.8 XS lens. However, the Blue and White Pentax K-01 will be compatible with all K-mount lenses.

Availability of the original Pentax K-01 is very limited in the US

Pentax K-01 is still available in a Black color with a 40mm lens at Amazon for a price of $299.95. The Black and Yellow version (body-only) costs $329.95, but the stock is limited.

There are little chances that these units are coming back to the US, so if there are any people eager for this mirrorless camera, then they should hurry up.

Meanwhile, Ricoh has revealed that it is dropping the Pentax brand from its name. The company will be called “Ricoh Imaging”, but the good thing is that the “Pentax” brand will live on.
