Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 lens coming this fall, followed by two others

Fujifilm has revealed that it will release two new lenses by the end of 2013 and another one is coming in early 2014.

Fujifilm was supposed to launch a slew of lenses this year. Sadly, the offer has been rather scanty, with the XF 55-200mm drawing most of the plaudits.

In a recent meeting, the Japan-based company has explained to the attendees that the 23mm f/1.4, 10-24mm f/4, and the 56mm f/1.2 lenses are still on track to be released in the foreseeable future.

Fujifilm XF lens roadmap for 2013-2014. XF 23mm f/1.4 coming in October, followed by XF 10-24mm f/4 in December, and XF 56mm f/1.2 in January 2014.

According to Fujifilm, two of the aforementioned optics will become available by the end of 2013 and the last of the three is scheduled to go on sale in the first month of 2014.

The XF 23mm f/1.4 R and XF 10-24mm f/1.4 R are coming by the end of 2013. The former is slated for October and will provide a 35mm equivalent of 35mm, while the latter will hit markets in December and will offer a 35mm equivalent of 15-36mm.

On the other hand, the January 2014-bound XF 56mm f/1.2 R will have a 35mm equivalent of 85mm.

An aperture ring will be available on all three lenses

Fuji has also confirmed that its XF 10-24mm f/4 R will come packed with built-in optical image stabilization technology. However, the Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 lens and the others will feature an aperture ring, which is always a nice addition.

It is very likely that photographers will have to update their cameras before using the lenses, but the company has not been very specific in that department.

The only confirmation about firmware updates refers to allowing users to set a minimum shutter speed when using Auto ISO, which should be coming soon.

Still no official words about the Fujifilm X30 nor about the X-S2

Other Fujifilm plans include several fixed-focal length telephoto lenses. Unfortunately, there is no expected release date, but if you can wait a little longer, then you should not give up on the X-mount just yet.

Unfortunately, the company has not revealed any information about the upcoming entry-level camera without an X-Trans sensor, so we will have to rely on the rumor mill for that.

In the meantime, the Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 is currently available for $799 at Amazon and the X-E1 and X-Pro1 cameras will each receive a firmware update on July 23.
