Canon 1D Mark III, 1D Mark IV, and 1Ds Mark III updated

Canon has released new firmware updates for three of its EOS cameras, including the 1D Mark III, 1D Mark IV, and 1Ds Mark III.

Digital camera manufacturers tend to improve their products after releasing them on the market through firmware updates. Usually, aging devices get discontinued, but Canon will certainly please its fans as well as attract new customers thanks to the company’s latest action.

Canon 1D Mark III is upgradeable to firmware update 1.3.2. The 1Ds Mark IV and the 1D Mark IV can also be upgraded to a new firmware, which fixes a couple of bugs.

The Japanese corporation has announced new firmware updates for older professional cameras, such as the 1D Mark III and the 1Ds Mark III.

It is worth noting that the EOS 1D Mark IV can be considered old, too, as this unit and the 1Ds Mark III have both been replaced by the 1D X in the middle of 2012. All three devices have been discontinued.

Either way, Canon has released three new firmware updates and all of them have the same changelogs.

The company says that a bug caused the battery to drain a lot faster when the cameras were not connected to a lens and the bug has been fixed.

The second and final change refers to fixing a problem causing the shooters to display the infamous “Err o2” error when the photographers pressed the shutter button. This issue used to occur also when a lens was not attached to the DSLRs.

The Canon 1D Mark III firmware update 1.3.2 is available for download at the product’s official support page, along with the 1Ds Mark III firmware update 1.2.3 and 1D Mark IV firmware update 1.1.4, respectively.

The EOS 1Ds Mark III and the EOS 1D Mark IV can no longer be found new at Amazon. However, the retailer is selling the EOS 1D Mark III for $5,999, while the EOS 1D X can be purchased for $6,799.

Canon’s plans for the future

Canon’s future plans are more exciting than the current ones. The Japan-based company is looking to release a big megapixel camera, which will feature the Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology found in the EOS 70D.

The announcement might take place by the end of this year, but the shooter is coming at a store near you in 2014.
