Samyang has officially announced a new cinema lens for V-DSLR cameras with APS-C image sensors, called 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS.
Samyang is relatively new in the business of cinema lenses. However, the company is trying its best and the first results are pretty impressive. A new model has been announced and it consists of the 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS lens, which supports a plethora of APS-C camera mounts.
Samyang introduces 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS cinema lens
The Samyang 16mm T2.2 cinema lens will be a very bright optic. Its maximum aperture of T2.2 has been possible thanks to a great lens design, which consists of 13 elements divided in 11 groups.
The optic also comprises ED, aspherical, and hybrid-aspherical lens elements, in order to boost video quality. All parts are coated in anti-reflection UMC, to make sure that the light is transmitted properly and optical flaws are a no-show.
Most ILCs with APS-C image sensors to support the Samyang 16mm T2.2 cinema lens
Samyang and Rokinon will sell the 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS lens in multiple versions, including Canon EF, Canon M, Nikon F, Sony A, Sony E, Micro Four Thirds, and Fujifilm X.
Although the press release refers to “Canon EF”, it is very likely that the company meant to say “EF-S”, as this is Canon’s APS-C mount, even though EF lenses are supported by EF-S cameras.
Additionally, the correct Nikon term should have been “DX” instead of “F”, as the former represents APS-C cameras, while the latter describes full frame shooters.
Samyang to release 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS lens soon for £449.99 / €419
Either way, the Samyang 16mm T2.2 ED AS UMC CS lens will become available over the following weeks. The price will stand at £449.99 in the UK and €419 in Europe.
US availability remains unknown, but the product should also be released nationwide for a price under $500.
Wide-angle 16mm f/2 lens is available for regular photographers, too
This cinema lens is derived from a photography-related lens. The Samyang f/2 ED AS UMC CS lens is available for APS-C cameras from Nikon, Canon EF-S and M, Micro Four Thirds, Sony Alpha and NEX, Samsung NX, Fujifilm X, and Pentax K-mount.
The regular model for DSLRs can be purchased at Amazon for $479. The costs are the same for all mounts.
