Nikon Speedlight SB-300 to brighten your shots in late August

The Nikon Speedlight SB-300 has been announced as a compact and lightweight external flash to light up the scene in darker environments.

Nikon has made several announcements on August 6. The company has begun with the Nikkor AF-S DX 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for APS-C shooters and has continued with the Coolpix L620 and S6600 compact cameras.

Now, the Japan-based corporation has revealed a lightweight accessory in the body of the Speedlight SB-300. The external flash can be tilted upwards by 120 degrees, allowing photographers to bounce the light for better control.

The new Speedlight is compatible with all Nikon FX and DX cameras and all Coolpix shooters with i-TTL flash control can take advantage of the product’s capabilities, as well.

Nikon is aware that built-in flashes to not provide the desired lighting, as they are too small to meed the demands of professional photographers. However, this does not mean that an external one has to be heavy or big. As a result, the Speedlight SB-300 has been designed to be lightweight and compact.

It measures 57.4 x 65.4 x 62.3mm and weighs 97 grams, thus adhering to the aforementioned mantra.

The Nikon Speedlight SB-300 will work as intended right out of the box. No setup is required, meaning that users just have to connect it to the camera and that is it. However, the i-TTL flash control function will allow photographers to determine the output level to better match their lighting needs.

Things get serious when the flash is used in combination with a DSLR. The new Speedlight can send color temperature details to the camera, which will then choose the white balance in concordance with the received information.

Higher-end DSLR cameras and the Coolpix A also support the FV lock function. This is useful when trying to recompose the shot. The flash color is saved and photographers will be able to recompose at will.

The Nikon Speedlight SB-300 will be released on the market at the end of August. The flash will cost $149.95 and it is available for pre-order at B&H Photo Video.
