The Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 lens replacement is rumored to feature a focal length longer than 90mm, though its alleged release date remains unchanged.

Canon was supposed to replace both the 45mm and 90mm TS-E lenses this year. A lot of rumors have been revolving around the pair since the beginning of the year. However, the most recent leaked information suggests that the two optics are coming in early 2014.

Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 lens will be replaced in 2014. Its successor is rumored to have a longer focal length and to receive the “L” treatment.

Despite the fact that trusted sources have already leaked the couple’s release date, this does not necessarily mean that the rumors will come to an end. As a matter of fact, there is a new one in town and it says that the Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 lens replacement will have a focal length longer than 90mm.

This is a bit unexpected, but the source added that the company’s fans and potential buyers should “not be surprised” at the prospect of buying a tilt-shift lens with a very long telephoto focal length.

The report adds that such an achievement is not impossible. Moreover, Canon is allegedly considering to apply the “L” treatment to the new lens.

The general consensus says that “L” stands for “Luxury”. This would mean that the optic will have a very high-quality build and will become available at much higher costs. However, it could also stand for “Low Dispersion”. Either way, consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets.

Canon’s stock of TS-E lenses is emptying at a fast pace

For the time being, Amazon is selling several tilt-shift lenses for the EOS maker’s cameras. The Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L UD is available for $2,289, while the TS-E 24mm f/2.5L II costs $1,999.

Furthermore, the Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8, which will also be replaced in 2014, costs $1,299. Last but not least, the current TS-E 90mm f/2.8 can be purchased for $1,399.

All stocks levels are pretty low. Nevertheless, it does not mean that the replacements are coming sooner, as the retail is claiming that more units are on their way.

Just like with all rumors, do not hold your breath over this one, as the Japanese company is known for delaying products, especially when it needs to focus on more important stuff.
