A couple of Canon-related rumors have become true, as the Japanese company has officially announced several new PowerShot cameras and an EF-S zoom lens for APS-C DSLRs.

Late summer provides the perfect timing for camera makers to reveal their fall collection of devices. Canon has decided to take advantage of it by unveiling five new PowerShot cameras and a zoom lens for APS-C EF-S-mount shooters.

The company has been rumored to announce novel PowerShots for a long time. As expected, the Canon G2X is not among the novelties’ list and there are little chances for the G1X replacement to be revealed by the end of 2013.

Meanwhile, the Canon PowerShot N Facebook edition is now official. It is basically the same gadget introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013. The only difference is that it is packing a Facebook button, allowing photographers to instantly share photos on the popular social networking website.

The Facebook button on the new PowerShot N replaces the “connect-to-device” unit on the original N camera. This change does not have a major impact on the price, as the Facebook version will be released soon for $299.99, while the regular camera costs $284.95 at Amazon.

Either way, the device packs a 1/2.3-inch-type 12.1-megapixel sensor, ISO sensitivity of up to 6,400, 28-224mm lens (35mm equivalent), 2.8-inch tilting LCD touchscreen, full HD video recording, and built-in WiFi.

Two premium PowerShots have been announced, too: the Canon G16 and S120. The former is considered the flagship compact camera for enthusiast photographers and it is powered by a DIGIC 6 processor, 35mm equivalent of 28-140mm f/1.8-2.8 lens, and 12.1-megapixel sensor.

The G15 replacement is capable of achieving focus 50% quicker than its predecessor, while its shutter lag has also been halved. An optical viewfinder will allow users to frame the shot, though a 3-inch LCD screen is present, too, for photographers who prefer shooting in Live View mode.

The Canon S120 features the same 12.1MP CMOS image sensor, but it offers a 24-120mm f/1.8-5.7 lens considering the 35mm equivalent. Additionally, its 3-inch display is a touchscreen, providing quick access to settings. However, it does not have a built-in viewfinder.

Both cameras feature WiFi and they will be pushed on the market as of October. The PowerShot G16 will cost $549.99, while the G120 will be priced at $449.99.

Canon has revealed another product that proves that the company likes to stick to its guns. The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM telephoto zoom lens comes with a stepping motor, replacing its predecessor which did not feature one.

The STM provides smoother and more quiet focus, which is a good addition over the previous version that is powered by an internal focus drive. This is very useful during video recordings, demoing the company’s prowess when it comes to movie features.

It will be offered with an EF-S mount, meaning that it will be supported by the manufacturer’s APS-C cameras, such as the EOS 70D. Its release date has been scheduled for late September, while the price has been set at $349.99.
