Sigma is rumored to announce four new super-telephoto lenses in the near future, that will offer similar quality to the Nikon and Canon versions at smaller prices.

Sigma is quickly becoming a lot of photographers’ favorite because the company is releasing high-quality products at very good prices. Everything is still being manufactured in Japan and everybody knows how much effort the workers are putting into delivering good products.

A new Sigma 500mm f/4.5 lens is rumored to be under development along with 300mm, 400mm, and 600mm telephoto optics. All of them are thought to be released on the market sometime in 2014.

Sigma 300mm f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4, and 600mm f/4 lenses coming soon

The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens has received numerous praises from reviewers, testers, and users. However, this is not the single optic that will give photographers reasons for joy.

According to inside sources, the Sigma 300mm f/2.8, 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4, and 600mm f/4 lenses are currently under development and they might be released in 2014.

New Sigma telephoto lenses to compete against Canon and Nikon counterparts

The aforementioned optics will fall into the “super-telephoto” category. Each one of them will come packed with optical stabilizer technology.

Their quality will be among the highest, while its performance can be easily seen from their descriptions, as they will offer a very fast aperture.

The rumor mill says that Sigma will bring out its best technologies, as this is the single way to compete against Nikon and Canon products. The company’s philosophy is demoed once again, as the products will be good, but cheap.

Two out of the “fantastic four” lenses are still available at major retailers

Sigma is already selling two of the four products. The first is the 300mm f/2.8 EX DG IF HSM APO telephoto which costs $3,399 at Amazon.

This one is available with Canon, Minolta, Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung, and Sigma mounts.

The Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX DG IF HSM APO telephoto can be purchased for $4,999 through the same retailer and with the same mount support.

On the other hand, the 400mm f/5.6 telephoto and 600mm f/8 mirror lenses can be found only via eBay.

What about existing competition?

Amazon is selling the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM II version for $7,249 and the Nikon 300mm f/2.8G AF-S ED VR II for $5,799.

The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L costs $10,999, while the Nikon 400mm f/2.8G is priced at $9,018.98.

Canon EF 500mm f/4L and the Nikon 500mm f/4G are available for $10,399 and $8,399, respectively.

Last but not least, the Canon EF 600mm f/4L and the Nikon 600mm f/4G can be bought for $12,899 and $9,799, respectively.

As anybody can see, these are highly-priced optics, meaning that not all photographers can afford them. The new Sigma telephoto lenses will be cheaper, so they should attract a lot of customers.
