Sony FDR-AX1 4K video camcorder to be introduced soon

Sony will announce an affordable 4K video recording camera soon, in order to give more people a chance at enjoying professional-like videography.

Sony is making and selling a lot of camcorders and some of them can even record 4K videos. However, most of them are very expensive and this means that not a lot of people can afford them. For example, the Sony NEXFS700UK is available for a price of $7,737.99 at Amazon.

Thankfully, technology advancements usually come in the same package with a decrease in the prices of older components and technologies, which will take down the overall price of a product, too.

Sony NEXFS700UK camcorder captures 4K videos, but it is available for more than $7,500 with a 18-200mm lens kit. The FDR-AX1 will solve this problem as it will retail for less than $5,000.

It appears that the Japan-based manufacturer will release a device that will put professional-like 4K video capturing into the hands of people who cannot spend more than $5,000 on something like this.

According to inside sources, the so-called Sony FDR-AX1 4K video camcorder will be announced and pushed on the market in the near future. Nonetheless, no specific date was given.

Sony FDR-AX1 to feature XQD cards and XLR output

The person who has leaked the information has even managed to get his hands on the device’s specifications list.

It is rumored that the Sony FDR-AX1 will be able to record 4K movies as well as 2K ones. This decision will be left entirely up to the users, who will encounter an option in the camera menu to toggle between the two.

The upcoming camcorder will support XQD memory cards to store the huge files and will come with XLR output port for superior audio quality.

Ultra HD video recording at an affordable price could be a winning formula

There are no details regarding the lens that will be provided by Sony, other than that it is a G-lens. However, it is unlikely that the camcorder will support any interchangeable lens mount systems. This means that a fixed zoom lens will have to do for the users.

The reason why the company needs to go with a fixed lens is the price. As stated above, the FDR-AX1 will be very cheap for a product capable of capturing 4K videos, as it will cost less than $5,000.

Sony might announce this device along with the lens-camera modules and the i1 Honami smartphone at the IFA Berlin 2013 show. Nevertheless, do not bet all your money on this as it is a rumor and you have to take it with a pinch of salt.
