Olympus has announced a new photo contest on its UK-based website and has used this opportunity to tease the launch of a new high-end compact camera.
Nikon is not the only company which has begun a promotional campaign which involves teasing a new product. The D4H is said to be a retro-styled full frame DSLR to be announced on November 6.
On the other hand, Olympus has also decided to tease an upcoming product: a high-end compact camera. This may sound familiar to Camyx readers, as we have previously reported that the Japanese manufacturer is preparing such a device.
Olympus photo contest features unannounced high-end compact camera on the prize list
First, it has been mentioned as a compact shooter with a Micro Four Thirds sensor. However, as time went by, it has become clear that it is an XZ-like camera with a similar 1/1.7-inch-type of unknown megapixels amount.
We now have a confirmation that it is coming thanks to the company itself. A student photography competition has begun, inviting students to share their best people and portraits photos, so that they can win an upcoming high-end Olympus compact camera.
The contest is available in UK and it involves a partnership with social network Exhibtr, which promotes beginner artists and helps them to show off their impressive work.
OM-D E-M5 for the winner, runners-up to get Olympus Stylus 1 compact shooter
Entering the competition is pretty easy, but winning it is a whole new discussions. This is why the first prize consists of an Olympus E-M5 camera with a 12-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens kit.
The new premium compact camera is mentioned as a prize for the second and third places. Photographers who will come second and third will each receive the high-end Olympus compact, which will be announced soon.
How soon is “soon”? Well, in this case it is October 29 and if you are in the UK, then November 2 at the Covent Garden in London, where the device will be previewed.

If you must know, then the camera shall be referred to as Olympus Stylus 1. It will feature a 35mm format equivalent lens of 24-300mm, which is a more than decent zoom optic.
The first shots depicting the device have already been leaked. It is definitely a gorgeous camera with intriguing capabilities. Stay tuned and you will find out the full details, but remember to check out the rules of the competition at the company’s UK website.
