Samyang has announced a new wide-angle prime lens with a 10mm focal length and f/2.8 maximum aperture as we are returning from a one-month vacation.
A lot of things can happen in one month and the world of digital photography has certainly seen some changes during our hiatus. Canon has finally officialized the EOS M2, which is not coming to the US and Europe for now.
Another official launch brings us the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds cameras. The South Korean company has decided to build a version for almost all mounts in order to make everybody happy.
Samsung introduces 10mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens with Nano Coating System
People who have been closely watching the photography market all these years will remember that a 10mm f/2.8 prototype has been displayed during Photokina 2012. However, a lot of things have been modified during this period.
First of all, the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens is the first optic with a nano crystal anti-reflection coating. The new Nano Coating System cuts down internal reflections and makes sure that the light is transmitted in a proper way, while the contrast is higher as a result.
The second major adjustment is represented by a built-in petal-like hood. This one looks better and it also saves about 160 grams when compared to the weight of the original lens hood design.
No built-in AF and IS systems for the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens
As for the features of the new Samyang 10mm f/2.8 lens, we can find an aperture ring, a minimum focusing distance of 25 centimeters / 9.84-inches, two aspherical elements, and an ED element.
The optic does not come with built-in image stabilization, nor with an autofocus drive, which means that your camera requires an integrated AF drive in order to support autofocusing.
The total weight stands at 580 grams / 1.28 lbs, while the measurements include an 86mm / 3.39-inches diameter and 77mm / 3.03 inches in length.
Release date and price details
Samyang has confirmed that the 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens will begin shipping in January for Canon EF and EF-M, Nikon DX, Sony Alpha and E-mount, Micro Four Thirds and Four Thirds, Pentax KAF, and Samsung NX cameras.
Since it is aimed at APS-C shooters, it will provide a 35mm equivalent of 15mm, while the MFT model will offer a 20mm equivalent. The price will stand at £469.99 for the Nikon model, while all others will cost £429.99.
