Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens finally becomes official

The sought-after Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens is now official and it has been scheduled for a March 2014 release date with a price tag under $1,000.

Fujifilm is quickly expanding its Fujinon X-mount series with the announcement of a new premium wide-angle lens: XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS.

As the end of the year was approaching, little possibilities have remained for the Japanese company to launch yet another optic. However, Fuji has proven that it has the ability to surprise us and this wide-angle optic is no longer just a small part in a future roadmap.

Fujifilm announces wide-angle zoom lens with constant maximum aperture and optical image stabilization

Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS
Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens is a wide-angle optic with constant maximum aperture that will be released for X-mount cameras in March 2014.

The Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens provides a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the zoom range. This is quite an impressive achievement, especially when coupled with the built-in optical image stabilization technology.

Photos will not appear blurry as the lens will try to compensate for any camera or hand tremors. Optical quality is also ensured by the High-Transmittance Electron Beam Coating. This coating is applied to the lens in order to cut down reflections that would create lens flare and other aberrations.

Company’s latest and best technologies added into the new Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens

The 2.4x zoom lens will be compatible with all X-mount cameras, including the newly-announced X-E2. Fujiilm’s mirrorless cameras offer a crop factor of about 1.5x, meaning that the lens’ 35mm format equivalent stands between 15 and 36mm.

It remains a wide-angle lens and its relatively bright aperture makes sure that users can take photos even in poorly-lit environments. Additionally, the aforementioned OIS technology should help here as well.

The Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens also features Lens Modulation Optimizer technology that makes sure that details are stored even in JPEG files and even when taking images at the smallest apertures.

The minimum focusing distance stands at 24 centimeters, while the lowest aperture setting is f/22. The optic is made out of 7 diaphragm blades, 14 elements in 10 groups, including four aspherical elements and three extra low dispersion ones.

Release date set for spring 2014, price goes under $1,000

Fuji’s new baby measures 78mm in diameter and 87mm in length, while weighing 410 grams. With its filter thread standing at 72mm, the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens has been set for a March 2014 release date.

A hood will be supplied and photographers will be able to set the aperture manually using a ring placed around the lens. The price for the optic has been set at $999.95 and the lens should become available for pre-order soon.
