Olympus E-M10 camera and 25mm f/1.8 lens to be announced soon

Olympus E-M10 Micro Four Thirds camera is rumored to be announced within the next few weeks along with two new lenses.

One digital imaging company which has not brought any notable product to the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 is Olympus. It is a very surprising absence for the company that is back on track as its mirrorless camera sales have increased last year driving more revenue into its bank accounts.

Either way, it seems like we will not be missing Olympus for very long as the Japan-based manufacturer has big plans for the first part of 2014.

Olympus E-M10 rumored to replace the E-M5 in the near future

Olympus E-M5
Olympus E-M5 is finally heading towards retirement as the E-M10 camera is rumored to be announced in late January.

According to trusted sources, the Olympus E-M10 is the next Micro Four Thirds camera to become official. This is the name of the shooter that is replacing the E-M5 and which will be placed a category below the flagship E-M1.

Speaking of which, the E-M5 successor will borrow some traits from the higher-end E-M1, such as the more powerful imaging processor. The image sensor will remain the same as that of the E-M5 model: 16-megapixel Live MOS.

Nevertheless, the new True Pix II processor will provide higher-quality images and everything will be processed generally faster.

Furthermore, the E-M10 design will be similar to that of the E-M5, meaning that it will not feature that cool grip and the amount of buttons found in the E-M1.

Amazon is offering the E-M5 for a price of $945.69, while the E-M1 costs $1,368.89, meaning that the E-M10 will be priced between the two. Launch date is expected for end of January or beginning of February.

Olympus also working on 25mm f/1.8 lens to compete against Leica’s 25mm f/1.4 model

Alongside the E-M10, Olympus will introduce two new lenses. One of them is a 25mm f/1.8 version, which is rumored to be announced around the same time as the E-M10 camera.

The Olympus 25mm f/1.8 lens is coming in late January or early February as an alternative to the Leica 25mm f/1.4. The reasons why MFT adopters want and actually need it consist of the lower price and tinier body.

The Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 costs $529 at Amazon and weighs about 90 grams. Rumors say that the 25mm f/1.8 will definitely be less expensive and lighter than the Leica’s optic.

The second lens is a small zoom lens. Its focal length range is unknown, but the launch date is only a few weeks away and potential buyers will have to remain patient just a little longer.
