Canon 7D Mark II coming this fall, 4K video camera sooner

Canon 7D Mark II is once again rumored to be announced by the end of 2014, as a DSLR camera that will become the “benchmark in the APS-C segment”.

The digital camera market is declining. Shipments are dropping at a fast rate, but smartphones are not the only ones to blame. Consumers are accusing manufacturers that they have become lazy and are failing to innovate.

In a sea of letdowns, Sony is actually receiving a lot of praises, while mirrorless camera makers, such as Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus, are actively trying to return to success. However, Nikon and Canon seem to have forgotten the meaning of the word “innovation”.

Nikon is still delaying the launches of the Nikon D4S and Nikon D400. On the other hand, Canon has not announced the Canon 7D replacement, instead introducing high-end compact shooters, such as the Canon PowerShot G1X Mark II.

Although it should have been a great event for digital imaging fans, the launch of the Canon G1X II has not been welcomed by photographers. A lot of them are saying that the compact is too expensive and you will also have to buy a separate and also costly electronic viewfinder. The original G1X featured a built-in optical viewfinder, which had been a highly-praised tool.

So, what’s ahead for Canon fans? According to the rumor mill, the Canon 7D Mark II release date has been set for fall 2014, a moment when the camera will become the new standard in the APS-C DSLR series.

More than a year has passed since inside sources have said that the EOS 7D replacement will become available. Unfortunately, the information has proved to be false, as the successor is nowhere to be seen.

Many contradictory talks have been circling around the web in late 2013. However, everything comes to an end right now. Highly-trusted sources have confirmed that the release date of the EOS 7D Mark II has been scheduled for fall 2014.

Moreover, the new DSLR will become the best camera in the APS-C category, which has also been the case with the Canon 7D as it has proved to be too much to handle for the Nikon D300S .

As for the Canon 7D Mark II specs list, it should include a 20-megapixel or higher CMOS image sensor, maximum ISO of 25,600, maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second, continuous shooting mode of up to 8fps, 3-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen, and weathersealing.

On paper, the specifications are not anything we have not seen before. The key to big sales will consist of the software and image quality.

What else is on its way?

Canon is working on two Cinema EOS cameras. They will both be announced at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters)Show 2014 in April. One of them is a 4K video camera that will be sold at an affordable price.

Several new PowerShot compacts will also become official sometime over the following three months. One of them could be the Canon SX50 IS replacement.

The year of the lens for Canon is not living up to the expectations for now. Things will change very soon, beginning with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens replacement in March.
