Nikon is rumored to announce a replacement for the 1 J3 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in the body of the 1 J4 in the near future.

The market is constantly shifting and camera makers need to keep up the pace. However, this can be hard oftentimes and living proof is the mirrorless category which has taken a lot of companies by surprise.

Nikon has not been very successful in the MILC industry. However, it is not setting aside the plans to launch even more products.

Recently, the Nikon 1 V3 has succeeded the 1 V2 at the top of the 1 series. In order to show its commitment to mirrorless camera adopters, the Japanese maker is planning to unveil another model soon.

Nikon 1 J3 is rumored to be replaced by a Nikon 1 J4 mirrorless camera very soon.

Sources familiar with the company’s plans have confirmed that a so-called Nikon 1 J4 mirrorless camera will be announced in the near future.

Additionally, the 1 J3 replacement will be introduced on the consumer market shortly after its launch for a price that has yet to be determined.

A list of specifications has not been provided, although things could change in the coming weeks, therefore you should stay tuned for more details.

No information regarding Nikon 1 S1 replacement

The Nikon 1 J3 has been around since the 2013 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show.

Currently, it is sitting in the middle of the 1-series, just below the new 1 V3, and on top of the 1 S1, a low-end mirrorless camera announced alongside the 1 J3 at the CES 2013.

Nevertheless, it does not automatically mean that a Nikon 1 S2 will be officialized along with its bigger sibling. This possibility cannot be ruled out either, but this whole rumor has to be taken with a pinch of salt, just like all gossip talks.

About the Nikon 1 J3 and the possible price of its successor

Nikon 1 J3 features a 14.2-megapixel 1-inch-type image sensor, 3-inch LCD screen, maximum ISO sensitivity of 6,400, and an EXPEED 3A processor allowing the camera to capture 15fps in continuous shooting mode.

On the other hand, the higher-end Nikon 1 V3 sports an 18.4-megapixel sensor of similar size, 3-inch tilting LCD touchscreen, maximum ISO of 12,800, while its EXPEED 4A processor allows users to capture up to 20fps in continuous mode with continuous AF turned on.

The Japan-based manufacturer will probably keep the price of the Nikon 1 J4 at similar levels as its predecessor, which is available for less than $400 at Amazon, and will not go anywhere near the $1,200 tag of the 1 V3.
