The first photos and specs of the Sony A3500 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera have been leaked on the web ahead of the device’s announcement.

As of August 2013, Sony has started replacing the NEX brand with the Alpha one, which is borrowed from the company’s A-mount cameras. ILCE is now in charge of Sony’s mirrorless camera series and it stands for “interchangeable lens cameras with E-mount support”.

The camera that has kickstarted the line-up is the Sony A3000 back in August, followed by the A7, A7R, A5000, and A6000. It seems like the first device of the series is preparing to become the first to be replaced, as the first Sony A3500 photos and specs have been revealed by Sony Australia.

Sony A3500 specs hint at improved features over the A3000

An official announcement event for the Sony A3500 has not occurred, yet. However, this is not preventing the Australian division of the Japanese company to spill the beans.

The upcoming ILCE will feature a 20.1-megapixel Exmor APS-C HD CMOS image sensor, Contrast Detection autofocus with 25 autofocus points, maximum ISO sensitivity of 16000, maximum shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second, and a built-in Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder.

The mirrorless shooter comes packed with a built-in flash and an autofocus assist light. It can capture videos in AVCHD / MP4 format at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

During movie recording, users can frame their shooting on a 3-inch LCD screen. Content is stored on a SD/SDHC/SDXC card and it can be transferred to a computer via USB 2.0.

As for audio quality, the Sony A3500 offers an integrated stereo microphone. If you want to edit your images, then you will be pleased to hear that the camera is capable of capturing RAW photos.

First Sony A3500 photos reveal similar SLR-like design found in the A3000

The design of the Sony A3500 is not very different from the one found in its forerunner. This is still an SLR-like camera, but with an improved specifications list.

Additionally, the lens has suffered some changes, too. The Sony A3000 replacement will come with a kit lens offering a focal range of 18-50mm and a maximum aperture of f/4-5.6, while the current model consists of an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

The new model is currently listed for AUD$499, which would mean that the camera might cost around $450 in the US, which is up from the $400 launch price of the A3000.

As stated above, an official announcement could be hours away so remember to tune in regularly to find out all the details!
