The price, specifications, and photos of the Pentax 645z have all been leaked ahead of the medium format camera’s official announcement.
Pentax has recently begun teasing the launch of a new medium format camera. It is referred to as the “Z” and it should have been announced at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2014.
Nevertheless, here we are and the Pentax 645z is not official, yet. The shooter is said to become official this week, but the rumor mill has managed to reveal its specs, price, and photos before its launch event.
Pentax to launch soom medium format camera with 51.4-megapixel CMOS sensor
The Pentax 645z specs list begins with a 51.4-megapixel CMOS medium format sensor without an anti-aliasing filter that provides sharper images, albeit more prone to moiré patterns.
The device will sport an ISO sensitivity range between 100 and 204,800 and a 27-point autofocus system with contrast AF detection and focus peaking support.
Moreover, Pentax’s new MF camera will employ TTL metering alongside an 86k RGB sensor and a continuous shooting mode of up to 3fps for about 300 frames in a row. RAW files are supported, too, but the shooting speed decreases in this case.
This camera comes with a built-in optical viewfinder with 85% magnification, while the 3.2-inch 1.037K-dot LCD screen on the back can be used in Live View mode.
Pentax 645z specs list includes 4K video recording and USB 3.0 port
One of the most important features of the Pentax 645z will be the ability to record videos at 4K resolution. Industry watchers know that 4K is the next big thing in the digital imaging world and it seems like Pentax does not want to miss this train.
The new medium format camera will also pack an USB 3.0 port, allowing users to transfer files to a computer much faster when compared to using USB 2.0 technology.
The leaked specs confirm that the 645z can record full HD videos and a shutter speed range between 1/4000 and 30 seconds will sit at photographers’ disposal.
According to the rumor mill, the device will sport ultrasound sensor cleaning with dust alert, telling users whether or not dust has gathered up on the sensor. Beside that, the new 645z will be weathersealed, protecting its internals from dust and moisture thanks to 76 sealing points.
Pentax 645z price to be smaller than $8,500
This may be a medium format camera, but it will not be priced like one. Inside sources are reporting that the Pentax 645z price will stand below the $8,500 mark – at $8,496.95 to be more exact.
Usually, MF shooters are much more expensive than this, so this pricing will surely allow a lot of photographers to make the jump to the medium format.
The leaked Pentax 645z photos reveal a beautiful device and its measurements point to a rather compact camera, unlike other MF devices.
The camera will measure 117 x 156 x 123mm, while weighing 1,550 grams with the battery and card included. This information comes from the rumor mill, therefore we should wait for the company to make it official. Stay tuned, the launch event is happening very soon!
