An insider is reporting that Nikon will announce a replacement for the D7100 DSLR camera in the body of the D7200 sometime this summer.

Update (January 13, 2015): Nikon has registered the D7200 in Russia and it is rumored to introduce the DSLR at CP+ 2015 or around the starting date of this major event.

Nikon’s D7000 series has been heaping praises from photographers ever since its introduction. A lot of people have been claiming that both the D7000 and the D7100 are offering the perfect ratio between price and functionality.

Nevertheless, the Japan-based company is rumored to replace the D7100 roughly one year after its introduction. According to sources familiar with the matter, the Nikon D7200 DSLR camera has been scheduled for a summer 2014 announcement.

Nikon D7100 is reportedly getting replaced this summer. A Nikon D7200 DSLR is in the works and will be announced in the following months.

Nikon has revealed the D7100 in early 2013 with a brand new 24.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor without an anti-aliasing filter. The DSLR has replaced the D7000 camera, previously-unveiled in September 2010.

A lot of people have been thinking that a successor for the D7100 would not be released sooner than 2015. However, the camera has been hit with a minor price reduction shortly after its launch and the rumor mill has been speculating ever since the price decrease.

The latest piece of intelligence leaked on the web is hinting that the gossips have not been all wrong because the Japanese maker is cooking up the launch of the Nikon D7200 for this summer. Unfortunately, its specs list, price, or release date have not been disclosed.

At the time of writing this article, Amazon was selling the Nikon D7100 for a price below $1,150.

Nikon’s big plans for 2014 include D2300, D800s, D9300, and more cameras

Before the summer, Nikon will launch a couple of Coolpix compacts. The P8000 and the P700 will become official in the coming months and the aforementioned D7200 will follow.

As the Photokina 2014 approaches, the manufacturer is poised to launch several other DSLRs. One of them is the D2300, a tiny shooter that will be destined to compete against the Canon Rebel SL1 / EOS 100D, and which could be revealed alongside the two Coolpix cameras.

Nikon is not working on a lower-end D4x or D4H, as some photographers would have hoped. However, a D800 refresh, which goes by the name of D800s or D800x, might become official with a similar sensor, but higher ISO and price.

Last but not least, the elusive Nikon D300s replacement will be introduced sometime by the end of 2014. It will be called D9300 and should sport some cool specs. As usual, take this with a pinch of salt and do not raise your hopes very high.
