Olympus PEN E-PL7 announcement date to take place “soon”

In a similar situation to that of Panasonic, Olympus has decided to discontinue some of its Micro Four Thirds camera offerings. However, the company is not completely abandoning its low-end shooters, as the Olympus PEN E-PL7 announcement date is rumored to have been set for late May or early June.

After some initial rumors about the Nikon 1 S2 launch date, it seems like the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera has finally received an exact announcement date. According to the rumor mill, the camera’s launch event will take place on May 15, while other products are said to be unveiled during the same show.

Canon 11-24mm f/4 and 16-35mm f/4 IS lenses coming soon

Canon is rumored to unveil a couple of new wide-angle zoom lenses. Both of them are believed to feature a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the zoom range. The first appears to be the Canon 11-24mm f/4, while the second is the Canon 16-35mm f/4 IS. The rumor mill says to expect them in the near future and to be expensive.

New Canon PowerShot and Rebel cameras to pack DOF control

Canon is rumored to be working on a Lytro-like light-field technology that will be added into some upcoming compact cameras and DSLRs. According to an inside source, the company’s depth-of-field control features could become available in the new Canon PowerShot and Rebel cameras that will be released by the end of the year.

New Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 lens rumored to be in development

Fujifilm is preparing to replace an existing lens of the X-mount line-up. According to a source who has been right in the past, the new Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 lens is in development and it will be announced sometime in the near future. Furthermore, it seems like the company’s fist weathersealed lens will offer an aperture of f/3.5-5.6.

Panasonic Leica 42.5mm f/1.2

Panasonic 35mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2, and more lenses patented

In November 2012, Panasonic filed a patent for at the US Patent and Trademark Office. The application includes five lenses, two of which have already become available: Leica 25mm f/1.4 and Leica 42.5mm f/1.2. The remaining trio consists of the Panasonic 35mm f/1.8, 65mm f/1.8 and 100mm f/2 lenses, which could be released soon.

During the announcement of the A77 II, Sony has given us a glimpse of the A-mount line-up future. According to the company, a Sony A65 replacement is not in development and it will never be released. The camera looks like it has been “discontinued”, while its successor will probably never become available on the market.
