Fujifilm XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens announced

Fujifilm has finally given the company’s first weathersealed X-mount lens a proper introduction. The Fujinon XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens is now official and it will be released on the market this July.

The first weathersealed X-series camera was launched by Fujifilm towards the beginning of 2014. The X-T1 has become popular among photographers as it is packing lots of exciting features. Along with the camera, three new weathersealed optics have been “announced”, although they have not received proper announcement events.

Well, these days are over because the Fujinon XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens has just been introduced to the public with a couple of interesting features that have remained unknown to us so far.

Fujifilm officially introduces the first weathersealed lens for X-mount cameras

Fujifilm has begun its announcement by stating that the first weather-resistant XF lens is a pro-grade optic that will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of approximately 27-206mm.

The optic covers a wide shooting range while delivering great image sharpness and contrast thanks to four aspherical glass elements and two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) elements.

The multi-layer HTC-EBC coating is aimed at cutting down other optical flaws, such as ghosting and flare.

Fujifilm XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens comes with more than 20 weathersealing points. This way the optic is both dustproof and waterproof, meaning that it can be used in adverse weather or environmental factors.

One of the coolest tools found in this lens is a built-in ventilator. It is located at the barrel’s base and it activates when zooming in or out. As a result, neither dust, nor moisture will make its way into the lens, so zooming remains as smooth as possible.

During the announcement, the company has confirmed that the lens will come packed with the world’s most advanced image stabilization technology. The performance of the corrections have been doubled in this optic therefore it is said to provide up to 5 f-stops of stabilization.

This is quite an impressive achievement and it is possible thanks to the new gyroscope sensors that have a very high precision in detecting movements of any kind.

The Fujifilm XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens also sports a fast and silent autofocus system. It includes a linear motor and a lightweight focus lens that can be used in combination with any Fuji X-mount camera.

The company has done everything in its power to keep down the total weight of the lens. As a result, the Fujinon XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 optic weighs only 490 grams / 1.08 lbs, while its maximum length reaches 98mm / 3.85-inches.

Fuji will release the lens in July 2014 for a price of $899.95 and it is already available for pre-order at B&H PhotoVideo.
