MFT version of the Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 lens is in the works

Mitakon is rumored to be developing a Micro Four Thirds version of the Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens, which will compete against the SLR Magic 50mm f/0.95 lens.

Mitakon announced earlier this year that it was working on a Mitakon 50mm prime lens with a maximum aperture of f/0.95 for Sony E-mount cameras with full frame image sensors.

Eventually, MX Camera has begun selling the product through its eBay store and most users, who have pre-ordered the product, have already received their units.

As usual, the price of the Mitakon optic is affordable and the quality of the lens is quite good. This is a perfect combination, so the company has been thinking about expanding its offer by releasing a Micro Four Thirds version.

Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 lens could make its way into the Micro Four Thirds line-up. For the time being, it is available only for Sony FE-mount cameras.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Mitakon is indeed developing a Micro Four Thirds version of the Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens.

The lens is not expected to suffer many changes when compared to the original model for full frame E-mount mirrorless cameras. Instead, it may retain its dimensions as well as its internal design.

The Sony FE-mount version of the lenses consists of 10 elements split into seven groups with four Extra-Low Dispersion elements and one high-refraction element.

The minimum focusing distance stands at 50 centimeters, the focus system is quiet, and the aperture ring is stopless. The latter two mean that videography fans will enjoy this lens quite a lot.

Micro Four Thirds version would offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 100mm

If it does come to Micro Four Thirds cameras, then the Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 lens will provide a 35mm equivalent of 100mm.

The bright aperture will allow photographers to use faster shutter speeds in low-light conditions. Early reviews are saying that the optic is great to use indoors, when you have to work with less light.

If the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras comes to the market, then it will compete against the SLR Magic Noktor Hyperprime 50mm f/0.95 lens.

The price of this model is well over $1,000, so Mitakon has a chance of stealing some customers from SLR Magic, as the Sony FE-mount version of its 50mm f/0.95 lens costs around $900.
